One of the nicest families on TV October 15, 2008 Editor Plus (UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I watched this series as a child first and then as a young adult. It is so charming it never ages. John Astin and Carolyn Jones are brilliant as the heads of this very unusual family and the rest of the cast is also spot on. I could watch it a million times. One of the best comedy shows ever!
Charming and Fun October 23, 2007 Mr. Ross Maynard (Glasgow, Scotland) 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
While CBS aired "The Munsters", the American channel ABC had the rather similar "Addams Family". At the time, "The Munsters" had higher ratings, though, in my view, the "Addams Family" probably has a broader appeal to a modern audience. While Herman and Lily Munster have more style and charisma than Gomez and Morticia Addams, the "Addams Family" benefits from a wider range of characters for stories, and, probably, better storylines. "The Munsters" quickly develops into a theme with many similar stories based on Herman's strength. The "Addams Family" remains broad based and varied. Nevertheless, both series remain entertaining and fun, and your preference is a matter of taste. Our young daughter loves them both equally. Certainly, both the "Addams Family" and "The Munsters" stand up well to modern programming and these boxed sets are well worth the money.
Kooky but fantastic July 12, 2007 Tabitha Clarke (uk) 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
This original series just wipes the floor with the later Angelica Huston versions. The acting is superb and because this family of oddballs think that they're perfectly normal just makes it funnier. Watch out for indoor train wrecks, dynamite caps and a VERY interesting playroom and who could forget kitty cat - the lion who hates the taste of humans. Great special features with interviews with the original stars and how the series came about. A fantastic series to add to the collection, I'm just waiting for the arrival of volume 2
