We have a 31/2 year old who has watched the letterland videos since she was 2 years old. She has learnt the alphabet, both the phonic and names of letters and can pick out the letters in ordinary text. She has just started picking out words from books and we are convinced this has been as a result of the Letterland videos. She thoroughly enjoys watching the videos, especially this one of the series,as the story is very well presented and funny , and although she has several videos of different types, is always asking for the Letterland videos to be put on! We all love them!

This video uses animated Letterland characters to teach the alphabet and simple spelling which my 4 year-old could cope with. However my children did not find the video very interesting and, given the choice, prefered to watch other videos. The video is also spoilt by an initial introduction which tries to explain why learning to read is fun-this was very tedious and I wonder who it's aimed at: it seems a little high-minded for a 4 year-old who primarily wants to be entertained.
