Amazon.co.uk Review
For anyone who thought the Oscar-winning documentary March of the Penguins was the most marvelous cinematic moment for these nomads of the south, you haven't seen nothing yet. Here's an animated wonder about a penguin named Mumble who can't sing, but can dance up a storm. George Miller, the driving force behind the Babe (and Mad Max) movies, takes another creative step in family entertainment with this big, beautiful, music-fueled film that will have kids and their parents dancing in the streets. From his first moment alive, Mumble (voiced by Elijah Woods) feels the beat and can't stop dancing. Unfortunatly, emperor penguins are all about finding their own heart song, and dancing youngster--as cute as he is--is a misfit. Luckily, he bumps into little blue penguins, a Spanish-infused group (led by Robin Williams) and begins a series of adventures. Miller has an exceptional variety of entertainment, Busby Berkley musical numbers, amusement park thrills, exciting chase sequences (seals and orca lovers might like think otherwise), and even an environmental message that doesn't weigh you down. Best of all, you don't know where the movie is going in the last act, a rare occurrence these days in family entertainment. A fusion of rock songs, mashed up and otherwise are featured; this movie is as much a musical as a comedy. Mumble's solo dance to a new version of Stevie Wonder's "I Wish" by Fantasia, Patti and Yolanda may be the most joyful moment on camera in 2006. --Doug Thomas

5 out of 5 stars My kids Love it....   June 2, 2008

I am not daft, and I realise that as with most childrens entertainment these days there is invariably some higher moral message to be had, but guess what....we adults might be cynical about all that....the kids just enjoy watching the little penguin dancing and singing and all the bright coulours and fast paced action in parts, so adults out there lets not get to wrapped up in all the underlying messages, cos they could be a lot worse let's face it, and instead try and rememeber the magic we witnessed when we watched films as children.
My kids love this film, and my 5 year old dances with her happy feet when she's watched it, and if that's not uplifting, then I don't know what is!!
Great family entertainment, don't be put off by pompous bores, your little ones will see the magic!!

5 out of 5 stars Five stars!   May 20, 2008

Going against the recent reviews, but this was brilliant, for old and young alike, a heart warming story, hilarious in places, and a few jokes for the older audience. Familiar songs, and great characters. A good message too, for us all. Recommended family viewing.

1 out of 5 stars Happy Feet OK?   January 11, 2008

Sorry, but we found this film really boring, very little "plot", on and on in pseudo american voices, sent us to sleep in the end. The animation may be very clever but it has no substance, unlike "Babe" which I believe came from the same production company. There is absolutely no comparison! I really cannot see who this would appeal to. Kids might like the dancing penguins but it just goes on and on and on......! All that actually happens is there is something about fishing depleting the penguins' food supply. Ridiculous! All the money this film must have cost and it doesn't even put over any plausible line whatsoever. Big disappointment.

4 out of 5 stars If Pixar did a musical, this would be it   January 7, 2008

There are very few cg animated films that meet the standard of Pixar movies. A standard of amazing animation and great storytelling. This film nearly reaches this height and throws in musical elements for good measure.

Is this a kids film or is it an adult movie? Well, it's both. It's the tale of a penguin, who unlike every other penguin, can't sing. Instead he can tap dance, something frowned on by the elders and the parnets.

This film never slows, full of action throughout, with some spectacular set pieces. It's just a joy to watch and only the cold hearted would struggle to enjoy this film.

It perhaps doesn't have quite the emotional depth of Finding Nemo or The Incredibles, but it does have the fun. Light hearted and highly recommended for any age.

Not going to waste many words on this terrible feature but basically the worst film I have seen for a long time. If you are buying a kids movie get Monsters Inc, any of the Shreks even Cars or Sharks Tale but not Happy Feet....pretty please ?
