Amazon.co.uk Review If you don't mind a heavy dose of schmaltz and sentiment, this romantic comedy has a gentle way of seducing you with its charms. While You Were Sleeping was the first starring role for Sandra Bullock after her blockbuster success in Speed. In a role that nicely emphasises her easygoing appeal, Bullock is the reason the movie works at all. She plays Lucy Eleanor Moderatz, a Chicago Transit tollbooth clerk who's hopelessly smitten with a daily commuter, Peter Callaghan (Peter Gallagher). She saves the object of her affection from certain death after he's mugged and falls onto the train tracks. While Peter is in a coma, she lets his family believe that she is his fiancée, and surprisingly finds herself drawn to his brother (Bill Pullman), for whom the attraction is definitely mutual. How Lucy gets out of this amorous predicament is what makes this pleasant movie less predictable than its familiar ingredients would initially indicate. It's feel-good fluff, with characters and performances that keep you smiling through the drippy plot mechanics. --Jeff Shannon

Pure perfection April 6, 2008 Emz (England) This film is a true romantic comedy classic! All the characters are loveable-especially the two lead roles played by Bullock and Pullman who are both funny and believable. However the film is also successful as a result of many of the smaller comic characters from the Callaghan family and Lucy's friends (especially the cringe-worthy Joe Jr and the loveable Saul) The film is set at christmas which adds a certain magic to the story but is a great watch all year round. Full of fun and romance with a beautiful soundtrack-it is perfect night in movie for all and sure to cause a few tears!!! Watch and fall in love...
Good unchallenging entertainment February 15, 2008 Gerob (Reading United Kingdom) If you fancy an unchallenging relaxing night in, then you could do a lot worse than watch 'While You Were Sleeping'. A touch corny and wearing the ubiquitous American rose tinted specs, this film does not take life or itself too seriously. It has a simple rather innocent atmosphere, with the sole exception of a glimpsed mugging that initiates the whole story. If that's how you like your films then this certainly is one for you and you might give it five stars.
wonderful, heartwarming January 12, 2008 Edina Harman (uk) I have seen this film quite a few times. it always tickles me and makes me smile. it's the type of film that leaves you with a warm glow. the gran is so funny. the things she says cracks me up. that bit with the paperboy makes me laugh too. just deserts i'd say. I LOVE the, 'LEANING' scene. everytime I see it I always say, 'oh go on, just kiss her.' Watch it and be prepared to go, AAH!!!!!! love it, love it, love it. oh by the way have I said that I love it.
Brilliant chick flick June 26, 2007 RM Brown (Northampton, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
While You Were Sleeping is a brilliant romantic comedy with Sandra Bullock ideally cast in the lead role. Definately worth a watch.
Delightful and silly March 24, 2007 Gem (Scotland) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a delightful and silly romantic comedy; lightweight and sugary, just the way I like a romantic comedy to be. Sandra Bullock is funny and endearing as lonely Lucy and Bill Pullman is just so handsome and sweet. The supporting cast are very good too. Special mention has to go to 'Joe Junior' who is the funniest character in the film. The plot devices are very far-fetched but that's not a bad thing: this film is a lovely piece of escapism. The reason I have not given the film more stars is that I think this film would have been better if the relationship between the two lovers had been developed a little more. I know that this film is pure fantasy but another couple of scene between these two characters would have made their love that little bit more believable...or maybe I'm just becoming cynical in my old age. A wee gem of a film that I would watch over and over again.
