4 out of 5 stars Great Brittas Series   August 7, 2005

Brittas Empire series 4 is one of the best Brittas series i have seen. The second to last episode shows the local counsellor trying to pursuide Gordon to quit as manager and to find a flaw in Gordons management of the leisure centre in order to fire him. It does prove a success in the end and in the process, Carole is also fired. The other episodes are top notch and the final episode is brilliant.

A must buy for any Chris Barrie fan, as this is some of his best work.

This latest Brittas release must rank as one of the best. Once again Gordon Brittas is ably assisted & at times hindered by Laura, Colin, Helen et al. This series contains some classic episodes &is supported by some well known guest stars including Sebastian Coe (MP) and Guy Siner (Lt Gruber from Allo Allo). Amongst some of the hilights of this series, Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre is besieged by roman soldiers when Gordon arrests the centurion's son. Gay Gavin's fiancee turns up & tries to burn down the centre. Colin recycles toilet waste in an attempt to be more environmentally friendly. Colin becomes manager for a day ... Until Brittas turns up! Colin tells everyone he loves them & drops his trousers! The series is a bundle of laughs and at times sad too. No more so than when Gordon gets the sack because the Leisure centre is not making money. However, Gordon can't keep away & he's determined to give the new manager the benefit of his experience. He is there when the Leisure centr blows up & burns to the ground. Actually, he's the cause of the disaster, but in true Brittas style Gordon ends up the hero of the hour.

Buy this DVD set. It's GREAT!

Like myself, i'm sure many of you will know a "Brittas" in real life. Series 4 continues the hilarious antics of Gordon, Laura, Helen, Colin, et al. This series contains some classic episodes. They are exceedingly funny, yet at the same time some are very touching when Gordon shows that he often means well. In this series we see him acting in his inimitable incompetent way as manager of Whitbury Newtown Leisure Centre. Several of the episodes in this series have well known guest stars including Sebastian Coe MP & Guy Siner (Lt Gruber in Allo Allo). Brittas has to cope with the usual assortment of problems which stand in the way of his dream. In "Not a good day" the leisure Centre is besiged by Roman soldiers after Brittas arrests the son of a centurion. Then in "Brittas changes trains" the staff of the leisure centre have all been hypnotised on a night out with hilarious results. This epsode contains several 'plots' running in parallel. Next Gavin has a fiancee in Playing with Fire. However, not all is as it seems. At the same time Gordon is on an energy efficiency drive & Colin helps by recycling toilet waste. All this happens in just the first 3 episodes of this series. The series had me rolling around in laughter & even a few tears when Gordon is sacked by Councillor Drugger because of his failure to make the Leisure centre make a profit. However, Gordon can't stay away from the place & ultimately ends up being the cause of the Leisure centre burning down. Is this the end for Brittas? Of course not! Gordon ends up as a hero of the story as only he can!

Don't miss this DVD. It's classic Brittas!!!
