Get it now! September 9, 2008 Holly I have got all of the Goodnight Sweetheart series on DVD.I was only two when it was on TV, but 15 years later it is still as good. I would recommend, the episode commentaries on the extras.
a comfort blanket June 28, 2008 ADAM This is a problem series for me. I enjoyed it when it was first shown on TV, i was a still a child at the time, so i have happy memories of seeing it, which is one of the main reasons i brought it. But it really is a very flawed television series. The good points are the plot, i love the idea of the time travelling, of the passage which leads to the 1940's, i think the theme of adultery is a brave one, i love the characters, and i think the actors are very good. The bad points are that its simply not very well written! Hardly anything happens from episode to episode, the amazing ideas are thrown away by a few cheap gags the same old morality questions and it just becomes like a comfort blanket, a distraction from life, rather than anything which makes us think. But nevertheless i do like my comfort blanket! Its just this series could have been so much more in the right hands.
falling through a hole in space and time April 9, 2007 E. Dale (W. Yorks, England UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Gary Sparrow is going about his everyday business as a tv repairman when he accidentally stumbles upon a strange alley Duckets Passage, as he goes dwon he passes through a hole in time and arrives in wartorn London. Going into The Royal Oak he thinks he has stumbled upon a theme pub specialising in the 2nd World War, it takes him some time to realise he is actually in the real thing. Fantastic sitcom with a difference starring Nick Lyndhurst.
Great show but no chapter markers January 4, 2006 A. G. Rogan (Blackpool, Lancs, UK) 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
"Goodnight Sweetheart" was one of my favourite sitcoms of the 90s, and this first series from 1993 is a six parter, unlike the later 10+ episodes per series. However it was disappinting to find the episodes had no chapter markers, in fact the episodes are chapters themselves. If this does not bother you then it is still a fine DVD, with good quality picture.
good show October 21, 2005 8 out of 11 found this review helpful
Having bought series 1 & 2 on vhs I am reluctant to buy the series on dvd until I know that the other series are coming out. But I have some good infomation for all the other people that are thinking the same as me! The other 4 series are coming out in the new year. Goodnight sweetheart was the best show of the 90s on bbc1 all round family entertainment. Who ever throught up the idea is a genuis
