Amazon.co.uk Review Garry Marshall's 1988 drama about a 30-year friendship between two women, one wealthy (Barbara Hershey) and the other (Bette Midler) seeking her fortune in show business, is well written (based on the novel by Iris Rainer Dart) and nicely textured in its contrast between the characters' separate destinies. When Hershey becomes ill with cancer, the film takes a predictably sentimental course, yet Marshall brings out the best in both actresses and catches some very fine drama. Beaches is a little too long, perhaps, but overall it is a fine experience. --Tom Keogh

i love this ! September 24, 2008 Mandy Bowes (Middlesbrough, UK) this film is an absolute must see! it will make u laugh and cry it will make you want to run to your best friend and give her a hug and tell her how much u love her i have watched this film about a hundred times but i don't get sick of it it's just amazing not to mention the main song is my favourate of all time (maybe because of this film??) Wind Beneth my winds needs no introduction everybody knows it and if you listen to the lyrics it basically tells you the story of beaches it's about two girls who meet when they are just 11 years old and just instantly become the best of friends even though they are complete opposites CC is brassy and bubbly and Hilary is quiet and shy, i think this is what makes it more interesting and the ending always gets me Verdict : absolute MUST SEE! buy this for your dvd collection and you won't be dissapointed
this is a true, one of that rare classics!!! April 18, 2008 Ben Cheesy for some.Others even narrowed this film that only women of all ages love this and the "so-called" film critics said that this film is too sappy, weak, yada yak yak. I am the most cynical ever when it comes to films but this is definitely one of the best ever film and for me, it belong in its own place as the film really has this flashbacks....ahhh,who cares? Those who haven't watch this yet...get this fast!!! I am a boy when I saw this and now I'm a man but I still love this film. *sigh* Don't you wish you had a friendship as close and as powerful as this?
Excellent January 8, 2008 Lisa London (London) Probably the best chick flick of all time, OK, a bit dated now, but still great. Why don't they make films like this anymore?! No special effects, just brilliant script, brilliant direction and brilliant acting!
Fantastic girly film! April 25, 2007 S. Dodd (UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Boys don't get this film, it's definitely a chick flick! Most girls can relate to this best friend relationship portrayed in the film, that's why it is so watchable. This is a great film to watch with a bunch of your friends ... however be prepared to cry, I've watched this film a million times and still get weepy at the end. A definite must have for your DVD collection!
Grab your tissues April 26, 2006 film buff Dave (Hull, UK) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have watched this film since the age of 20 and still it makes me cry 16 years later!! The clothes are very 80s, the hair is huge and the Divine Miss M's voice is never better. Its a great story about friendship through the years but I must warn you before you watch this film there are essentials to go with it - chocolate, wine and definately tissues - oh yeah and a good comedy DVD right after always helps - enjoy.
