3 out of 5 stars Are you a fan of Jackie Chan?   July 14, 2004

Are you a fan of Jackie Chan? There are scenes in this film, as in all Jackie Chan films, where he is superb. The fight-choreography is breathtaking. Though I've noticed that Chan's fake punches sometimes look ridiculously wooden. The fights in this film are all comic, in fact some of them are downright silly. It seems a shame to denegrate the work of such a superb fighter, but to me they don't look convincing enough.
I'm not much of a fan of Jackie Chan. The dubbing in this film (that is if this is the same version I watched) is so grating that I almost turned the sound off completely. The acting is atrocious (I know this is partly deliberate and alot of people enjoy this about Kung Fu films). But really this is atrocious, atrocious.
Also, the jokes in the film are not in the slightest bit funny.
Reading the other reviews of this film it seems that I'm in the minority, which I can accept. But be warned, if your'e not a fan of Chan, and like your Kung Fu to be serious/beleivable this is not the film for you.

4 out of 5 stars underrated classic   December 12, 2003

This film is similar in style to Drunken Master but unfairly is much less famous (It did actually come first). The action is well cheorographed and well paced, Jackie uses a good variety of props in the fights. Lo Wei gave Jackie much more creative control this time, and it shows when you compare this to films like Dragon Fist, it has more original action and more comedy. Like in drunken master, Jackie has cool training sequences in this film, including a set of upside down push-ups which are flawless.
If only Hong Kong Legends had released this instead, then we could have had a less grainy print and the option of subtitles, a commentary and some good extras. The film itself though, should be seen along with 'Snake in the Eagles Shadow and 'Drunken Master', as it is almost as good as these films.

4 out of 5 stars Slow Burn   January 9, 2003

This is one of Jackie Chans better movies. The Movie starts of slowly with Jackie living with his grandfather, at this point Jackie is not interested in learning kung fu. Jackie Grand father is a member of a kung fu clan which Jackie does not no about and is insistent that jackie does not show any of the kung fu. One day a member of a rival gang spots Jackie showing off his kung fu, tracks down his grand father and kills him. This happens at around half way through the film. This is where the film takes off. From half-way forward this is a classic film, excellent fight scences, good storyline, high level of martials arts a must purchase.

5 out of 5 stars One of Jackie's best films   September 4, 2002

In my opinion Fearless hyena is definately one of Jackie's best films. It's hilarious pretty much all the way through. It's worth buying just to see Jackie dressed up as a woman and not to mention the incredible fight scenes. The finishing fight has to be the wierdest yet - I was laughing so much I almost choked on a gummi bear. Wah
