Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.co.uk Review
When Peep Show arrived on our screens back in 2003, we were treated to a unique and original comedy by its partakers David Mitchell and Robert Webb. Now, two series later, Peep Show has become somewhat of a cult hit. Well, here's an opportunity to see where it all began back with series one--possibly the best of the lot.

Mitchell and Webb have been performing together for some time and it really shows; their comedic timing and on-screen relationship allowing you to feel for Mark (Mitchell) and Jeremy (Webb) as they plunders through their lives, trying to find love, and sex.

But the real joy of the first series is in watching how their idea--to follow the story through the eyes of the two main protagonists, Mark and Jeremy--comes to fruition on screen. It's a marvellous concept that works so well, being both unique and riotously funny at the same time.

It's helped by a strong supporting cast--notably Olivia Colman (starring as Mark's lusted after colleague Sophie) who has since gone on to star in series such as the equally successful Green Wing.

Peep Show is unique, different and, most importantly of all, a hoot. And with a bunch of decent extras on the disc, this is well worth picking up.--Mark Oakley

5 out of 5 stars An absolute, dark joy   July 18, 2008

Simply some of the best comedy writing of the last ten years. I think this is the only sitcom DVD I've ever watched more than once - I've watched this again and again.

Can't recommend highly enough!

5 out of 5 stars British cult comedy at it's best.   February 20, 2008

I cannot believe that Peep Show was around for four years before I started watching it. It has frequently been acknowledged as one of the most 'quotable' tv shows around, and that is no word of a lie.

The thing that I love the most about Peep Show, besides its brilliant lines, is the fact that it is so British. No cheese, no glamour, no cliches; it is simply the inner workings of 2 very ordinary young guy's minds.

Sensible Mark (a fifty something year old trapped inside a twenty something year old's body)lives with Jez, an aspiring musician with little talent or drive in life to do anything (except get laid and get wasted, of course!) Series One sees Mark and Jez get themselves into ridiculous situations, such as sleeping with a teenage goth, having a first date at a funeral, sending love interests 'nazi love' post-it notes and Mark having a brief sexuality crisis over his admiration for his boss, Johnson.

These utterly dysfunctional characters are humourous and incredibly likable. Their ridiculous quotes and lines are hilarious in that they actually accurately mirror our own thought processes - generally those things we decide should never be said aloud.

Peep Show is original, hilarious, and very politically incorrect. I would recommend it to anyone with a decent sense of humour.

This is the series that started it all. This show swept up so many awards and had me in stitches every week. The characters are so realistic and outrageous. There are lots of fun extras on the DVD. Buy it now, it's definately worth it.

season one of peep show is a case for brilliance in so many ways, its a show that uses inner monolouge in a way that american show scrubs does but extends on it further, delving deeper inside the human psyche, the show has lots of point of view shots which allows us into the characters head both through what they see and of course what they really think which isnt made obvious by the spoken words that they say,the truth is usually found in what they think.
The show centres around two flatmates, mark who is the more sensible one of the two, well i use the term loosely,he has however got the job that pays the bills and the rent and seems to be a dependable man,but his thoughts and actions at times betray that notion, jeremy on the other hand has no job, dreams of making it as a musician but is lousy at that and waits around for mark to get home from work and talk to him.
Around that lie various other characters who blend in and out of the series and all add to it,the show is laugh out loud funny and is worthy of high praise indeed,i will be getting series two soon and have high expectations on that already.

5 out of 5 stars Original, individual and funny   December 5, 2006

With modern British comedy a timid, shameful tribute band of its older, glorious cousin, it's good to see that Peep Show and a select few others can at least assure us comedy's decline in quality isn't some sort of inherant, Darwinian rule applicable to everything.

Peep Show is a sort of an up-market Bottom. Gone is the dingey flat and nob-gags, in is the swanky London pad and office job, but the two characters very much resemble Richy and Eddy in that they're life-enquiring, insecure and often rather low in their behaviour. Add to that practically no plot (it's more of a general tour bus ride around life than a set of stories, save for the mainstay topics of dating and sex etc) and you have something rather special. Depth of character, at times revealing human traits you can both excruciate and relate to, is wisely lathered on at the expense of elaborate, winding plots.

The performances are teriffic. The two protagonists work naturally and amusingly together. Mark has a particularly compelling ability with and delivery of language that will have you chuckling. That coupled with the eerily-lifelike observations on life should see this visiting your player's disk tray quite often.
