Maybe not a 'classic', but still has its moments July 19, 2008 LXIX (scotland) I'll watch any Bond film and look for its good points. "A View To A Kill" is probably not in the top tier of Bond films. Having said that, it does of course have all the key ingredients - such as Zorin (the genetic experiment turned psychopath), his able assistant - May Day (aka Grace Jones), spectacular locations (the Golden Gate Bridge and the Eiffel Tower), some excellent quips, car chases and of course some great music (this time provided by Duran Duran who were one of the biggest bands in the world at the time of its release in 1985). Any negatives? Well, straight away the opening sequence is not up there with other efforts (it bizarrely includes a take on a Beach Boys song at one point), the plot tends to plod along at times and there are some mid-80's elements such as Bond rampaging with a shotgun (there were a lot of shoot-them-up films around this time) and even Zorin getting in on the act with a machine gun. Bond also has a damsel in distress (Tanya Roberts) in tow for a particularly long time, and it does tends to cramp his style a bit in the latter half of the movie. "A View To Kill" was Roger Moore's last outing in the role and, in my opinion, he was till able to put in a good shift. Bond fans will always salute his contribution and seven movies. This is a standard Bond film and one for fans of the genre.
Connery and Moore on the same level March 2, 2008 K. Alger (England) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
i loved this film it is my Second favorite Second only to goldfinger and i thought that this was a brilliant way for Roger Moore to end his time as James bond. Roger Moore is often compared with Sean Connery which you cant do when talking about bond they bring two completley different styles. as fo the film brilliant 5/5 great action sequences, great villans and Great bond, the music is good. Great for any fan of Moore, bond or just action films

"I propose to end the domination of Silicon Valley" Max Zorin. In 1985 Roger Moore's final James Bond film. A View To A Kill was released. I can actually remember watching the film in a Wrexham cinema and thinking how enjoyable it was. With the hindsight of time, the fault lines of the film have become more visible. Just as Moore's third film, Spy Who Loved Me, had an almost identical plot to You Only Live Twice, View To A Kill borrows its storyline from Goldfinger, although instead of gold, villain Max Zorin is interested in the exciting world of micro chips. in addition, a good opening sequence is slightly tarnished by the inclusion of a Beach Boys cover track. In keeping on the subject of music, both David Bowie and Sting were offered the role of Max Zorin, before it was given to former Oscar winner Christopher Walken. Walken is one of the best villains in the series, bringing an element of humour into his role as the psychopath. Roger Moore has cited this as his least favourite of the films that he made, and likewise it is often seen as one of the weaker entries of the series. Despite this it superior to the likes of Die Another Day. The second half of the film is better with a good fire engine chase sequence and the final showdown on top of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Fransico. This DVD also includes a few good deleted sequences.
Underrated February 25, 2008 NoWireHangers (Sweden) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Roger Moore's last Bond film, "A View to a Kill", is considered by many to be one of the worst films in the series. In my opinion it's underrated. Yes, Roger Moore was getting a bit too old for the part but he still does a good job. My main complaint is Tanya Roberts's character, Stacey Sutton. She's not a very good Bond girl, but it is somewhat redeemed by Grace Jones's May Day character, one of the more colorful (no pun intended) Bond girls. Christopher Walken is a good villain and Bond gets help from Patrick Macnee who also does a good job. The story is something of a rework of "Goldfinger", but it' still fun and has added some nice twists and been updated to fit the 1980s. The movie offers lots of fun action and in my opinon delivers what I expect from a Bond movie.
One of Roger Moore's bests! February 4, 2008 Axey the Pax (Bristol) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great addition to the James Bond series. This is Roger Moore's last as 007, and he says farewell in style! The film has brilliant stunts, including a chase between police cars and Bond with Stacey Sutton in a fire truck! In this film, Moore took Bond to a new level, and it featured a wicked climax where water is rushing through the mines, and May Day sacrifices herself to stop the San Andreas Fault to go off! The battle on top of the bridge between Bond and Max Zorin is incredible! Christopher Walken is the perfect villain as Max Zorin, Patrick Macnee is brilliant as Sir Godfrey and Tanya Roberts is a top class Bond girl as Stacey Sutton! For me, this ranks with some of Connery's films! I seriously reccommend this because this is real Bond! This is how I imagine him! A man without fear, a man who clearly isn't indestructible but is brave and suave. Five out of five!
