Quality acting and drama from all concerned! May 16, 2008 DVD Addict (Dubai) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have just finished watching this set. I had seen some early episodes originally but watched all again. It is almost a bit "Lost on Mars" as the early series now do seem dated or rather perfectly portraying that time - the early 1990s. I found myself watching the clothes of DCI Tennison and of course the ageing of her in her character with all the trials and tribulations faced by a woman in the police force and in her personal life. She is a demanding , admirable yet imperfect character and it is heart wrenching to see the last episode when retirement beckons. Absolutely fantastic performance by Helen Mirren and of course the rest who make their characters just so believable!
ONE OF THE BEST TV DETECTIVE SERIES EVER March 17, 2008 Irishmoll (Dublin) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful

Iconic December 18, 2007 Heidi Brand (France) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
One word to sum up this series BRILLIANT. Helen Mirren is utterly believable in her development of the character of Jane Tennison. So often with long running dramas actors come & go thankfully not so Prime Suspect. Jane Tennisons' relationships with key characters develops through the individual stories as well as new personalities being thrown into the mix in every episode. Every episode is strong but I feel the strongest by far & the best are the first (I've lost count how many times I've watched it....my husband could no doubt tell you!)& the last. The fact that the final instalment of this classy, intelligent & iconic series is as strong as the first shows what an amazing set of detective dramas this is.
British police drama at its very best March 6, 2007 Shawade (UK) 27 out of 30 found this review helpful
There are those that see Helen Mirren as their mother and there are others that seriously fancy her... hopefully those that do both are in a small group on their own... This is truly Police Drama at its best. No Hollywood explosions, or tanned/musclebound/siliconed actors, simply gritty drama that feels as real as it can get. The plots are gripping and not plagued by too many Dickensian twists or coincidences. The actors are a combination of the famous and the not so famous, some indeed went on to bigger things at a later date. Sometimes Jane does not get her man and sometimes the obvious suspect (hence title) turns out to be the killer, however the path to get there, even at some of the 3.5 hour films keeps you riveted to the end. You want proof? Watch the very first one. The eventual culprit can outcreep Hannibal Lecter any day... [...]
Top TV Drama November 9, 2006 Mr. A. C. Gilbert (Chatel sur Rolle, Switzerland) 52 out of 54 found this review helpful
With the unsurpassable Helen Mirren as Jane Tennison, battling her demons through 7 episodes of one of the best cop series ever made. Mirren's acting is quite breathtaking; moving, authentic and gritty. Throughout she is aided by excellent casts, the plots are believable and gripping. Truly top class, with not a dud amongst them. My only niggle is the relatively high price of the box set, which costs about as much as purchasing the 7 episodes separately.
