Not a horror movie... October 28, 2005 Tsuki (Portugal) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Pit and the Pendulum tells the story of a woman and her husband that are "forced" to watch an Inquisition execution. Trapped in the middle of the mob, they can't turn back. The problem starts when Maria is unable to watch more and decides to defend the accused. She is immediately considered 'a witch'. This is not a horror movie, although it has some scenes that may get on your nerves. I consider the story behind it very interesting, although the acting is not as good as the story. Brother Torquemada is played by Lance Henriksen (Bishop, from Aliens).
Another great one from Stuart Gordon! August 7, 2004 R. Collins (the SOUTH) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is one of the best movies Full Moon has ever done. Directed by Stuart Gordon ( Re-Animator, From Beyond, Dagon) and written by Dennis Paoli, this film really delivers. Lance Henriksen gives an insane performace in this one, he almost gave Gordon a heart attack because he was so scary! And of course you've got the great Jeffrey Combs in a fine performance.
Don't be fooled March 23, 2004 Steve George (UK) 4 out of 10 found this review helpful
This, sadly, is not the original "Pit and the Pendulum" directed by Roger Corman and starring Vincent Price. This is a film with a different plot - the only resemblance between them being the presence of a big axe hung from the ceiling - starring Oliver Read as Torquemada. It has none of the horror or charm of the original. Need I say more? OK then. Save your money and put it towards a chipped player so you can watch the original on American sourced DVD.
What a load of rubbish March 11, 2004 Steve George (UK) 43 out of 50 found this review helpful
Do not be fooled. This is not the original Roger Corman film, starring Vincent Price. This is the cheap, spaghetti western version, made some years later, with none of the charm or horror of he original, and starring an already overweight Oliver Reed as "Torquemada". Sadly, Amazon do not choose to give you any information about who is starring in this film, or when it was made. Instead, one is told that customers who bought this film also bought "Fall of the House of Usher" (a genuine Corman film), which might lead one to think that one was not alone in buying the wrong film. You have been warned, This is a load of tat.
