I first saw this production when it was broadcast nine years ago (how time flies). I watched my VHS recording for years afterwards and it became part of my life. It's a gig recorded by The Pretenders when there was a vogue for acoustic(ish) sets incorporating string ensembles, this has to be the best evocation of that concept. The music is precise, moving and downright fun! It's superbly recorded and the performers seem to be genuinely enjoying themselves as well as playing definitive versions of great songs. Ms Hynde is on top form both vocally and on her guitars and the camera work is minimalist but appropriate. Basically a superb gig, superb music and a good recording.
