Missing the 2nd parts to two episodes August 18, 2008 Emmzer (Ireland) Am I the only one who has noticed that 'Cast not your pearls before swine' AND 'climb the greasy pole' both have two parts but the 2nd parts are not on the dvd or in the boxset for that matter? What is that all about? You're left wondering what Pa Larking does about being swindled? Tut!
Great Set, But Flawed April 13, 2008 Paul Jones (Sturbridge, MA USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great set containing six discs of the entire series. Disc 1 has an audio commentary, which reveals some interesting facts such as "Ma Larkin" actually being a vegetarian in real life and "Charlie's" hair being dyed. The only downer for me is the fact that the shows are spliced together. Being a completist I have to admit to being disappointed, but by the third disc however, it's like they gave up and we suddenly revert to a 2 part episode. Still, it's worth every penny.
A feelgood, family friendly classic series March 24, 2008 Mr. B. Charles (Bristol, UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
The Darling Buds of May is a fantastic series featuring David Jason at his typical best. The stories have a real feel good factor about them incorporating a mixture of happiness, humour and fun. David Jason's portrayal as 'Pop Larkin' is superb, particularly during the dialogue scenes with Pam Ferris as 'Ma Larkin' and his interaction with some of the other supporting characters Edith Pilchester and "the General". A particular highlight for me is the episode where the Larkin's take a holiday in France, Pop is mistaken as an English Lord; and ends with an impromptu party to mark the wedding anniversary of Charlie and Mariette. If you're looking for some good family friendly drama you can't go far wrong than with the Larkins in "The Darling Buds of May".
OH TO BE IN ENGLAND August 9, 2007 L. Wilson (Natal South Africa) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Living in Africa can have its downfalls, one is I missed the T.V. release but we did get it eventually and wow was it worth the wait. David Jason was born for the part of Pop and Pam Ferris is the only choice as Ma. Catherine Zeta Jones and Philip Franks certainly give 100% as do the supporting cast. Life with the Larkins is a gentle stroll down memory lane and their genuine enthusiasm for their parts shines through in every episode. If H.E. Bates himself had done the casting I don`t think a single actor would have been changed, everyone is perfik
A WONDERFUL COLLECTION March 27, 2007 M. A. Sutcliffe (Lancashire England) 22 out of 22 found this review helpful
I purchased this collection about a year ago and have watched it several times since then. It's great to be able to watch episodes in the correct order. I really recommend this collection. I never tire of watching it, it's such a comfortable story and makes you wish you lived with the happy go lucky Larkins as their story unfolds.
