3 out of 5 stars Dissapointing   June 15, 2008
P. Archibald (Scotland)
First off I'm a massive fan of seinfeld, the first 7 series were brilliant, but the final 2 were not as good, due to david stepping down from writing in my eyes,
Still a funny series, kramer is funnier and gets more story time, which is the highlight for me, but overall the writing was nothing special and the final episode had to be one of the most dissapointing ends ever, i mean, just sooo bad, i really hated the finale, but i personally do not think of that if anyone asked me about seinfeld, i say its one of the best shows ever.
I still recomend this dvd as its still better than most comedies out there, and like i said if you love kramer, you'l enjoy his antics in this series.

The final season of seinfeld was watched by 70 million viewers on average and this ranks as one of the highest viewed shows of all time, that being said, this isnt the greatest series of seinfeld, although it contains so many fine episodes, there are moments that drag it to an awkward, forced comedy and the finale is a very odd way to take the show indeed.
The series is certainly more slapstick than before, although season 8 started that ball rolling and of course with that basic style the show moved away from the show about nothing format that made it what it was.
Nonetheless, this series starts with great intent with the 'butter shave' which is a very funny episode indeed, others follow such as 'the blood''the merv griffin show''the frogger' and 'the apology' which also rank as comic gold ,however 'the serenity now',the maid' and 'the puertan rico day' feel like average beyond average in comparison.
The one hour 'clip show' could be seen as being lazy being that it is another best of segment but it works on some levels, the characters are all still on top form but some of the script is just painful at times which doesnt help matters.
The final episode named 'the finale' is a hour long episode more or less and divides the fans on so many ways and it isnt hard to see why,i would like to dissect that episode but i cant do it here as i would spoil the surpirise for many but needless to say it isnt the seinfeld way,i dont really hate this but when you hear jerry in an interview years later say that he understands why this wasnt well recieved then thats all the evidence you really need, but overall this series was pleasing enough but no classic.

3 out of 5 stars A mixed bag   March 19, 2008

Seinfeld remains the most popular US sitcom of the 90s but the last season was a disappointment when you compare it with the earlier ones. Looking back, it should have ended at the end of season 7 or 8, on a real high. Instead what we had was a significant drop in the level of humour, almost transforming it into another show. This was obviously due to Jerry Seinfeld wanting to leave his Abbott & Costello-like stamp on the show.
There were some very good episodes such as The Voice, The Slicer, and The Merv Griffin Show but there were also some bad ones especially The Maid, The Puerto Rican Day and The Finale. The Elaine Benes/David Puddy on-off story arc also became rather stale; in fact you often wished Elaine wasn't in many of the episodes. The ratings were still high but the ideas were definitely running out, so it was a good job they ended it.

5 out of 5 stars It doesn't get any better than this   November 28, 2007

The greatest sitcom ever to grace the TV screen. There'll never be another show this good. Jerry, Kramer, George and Elaine - each character is a brilliant comedy creation on it's own, but teamed together, they're comedy heaven.
And the supporting characters were all so cleverly cast. George's parents, Newman, Puddy, J Peterman, Mr Steinbrenner - all cult characters in their own right.
The show never got stale and even now looks as fresh as it did when it first went out because it's just sheer class.
Genius. Nothing will ever get close.

5 out of 5 stars The model for DVDs of TV series   November 23, 2007

This final series of Seinfeld is produced in the same way as the previous eight series. Beside "Notes about nothing" on the episodes, there are the inside looks when members of the cast, the writers and producers explain some of the background to the episode. There are also deleted scenes, bloopers and some sein-imation. The other bonus features are a featurette on the final programme as well as a round-table discusion between the cast and Larry David. There is an easter egg on the fourth disk but this is just some seinimation.

The series may not have had the stand out episodes of earlier series, but its still great after all these years. The additional treatment in terms of the introduction to the episodes makes the DVD well worth buying - especially if your introduction to Seinfeld has been reruns.
