Amazon.co.uk Review Garry Marshall's 1988 drama about a 30-year friendship between two women, one wealthy (Barbara Hershey) and the other (Bette Midler) seeking her fortune in show business, is well written (based on the novel by Iris Rainer Dart) and nicely textured in its contrast between the characters' separate destinies. When Hershey becomes ill with cancer, the film takes a predictably sentimental course, yet Marshall brings out the best in both actresses and catches some very fine drama. Beaches is a little too long, perhaps, but overall it is a fine experience. --Tom Keogh

this is a true, one of that rare classics!!! April 18, 2008 Ben Cheesy for some.Others even narrowed this film that only women of all ages love this and the "so-called" film critics said that this film is too sappy, weak, yada yak yak. I am the most cynical ever when it comes to films but this is definitely one of the best ever film and for me, it belong in its own place as the film really has this flashbacks....ahhh,who cares? Those who haven't watch this yet...get this fast!!! I am a boy when I saw this and now I'm a man but I still love this film. *sigh* Don't you wish you had a friendship as close and as powerful as this?
Excellent January 8, 2008 Lisa London (London) Probably the best chick flick of all time, OK, a bit dated now, but still great. Why don't they make films like this anymore?! No special effects, just brilliant script, brilliant direction and brilliant acting!
Fantastic girly film! April 25, 2007 S. Dodd (UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Boys don't get this film, it's definitely a chick flick! Most girls can relate to this best friend relationship portrayed in the film, that's why it is so watchable. This is a great film to watch with a bunch of your friends ... however be prepared to cry, I've watched this film a million times and still get weepy at the end. A definite must have for your DVD collection!
Grab your tissues April 26, 2006 film buff Dave (Hull, UK) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I have watched this film since the age of 20 and still it makes me cry 16 years later!! The clothes are very 80s, the hair is huge and the Divine Miss M's voice is never better. Its a great story about friendship through the years but I must warn you before you watch this film there are essentials to go with it - chocolate, wine and definately tissues - oh yeah and a good comedy DVD right after always helps - enjoy.
Many People September 24, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Many people will know the name Bill Bruford from his widespread and varied career playing for bands such as Yes or King Crimson or perhaps many of the sessions Bill has managed to notch up over the years, most notably for Genesis for whom he briefly drummed alongside Phil Collins when Phil took over the vocalists spot vacated by Peter Gabriel. These days Bill fronts the jazz quartet Earthworks and in addition to playing the odd session Bill seems more than happy playing dates as far afield as Japan and South America to enthusiastic jazz audiences and music lovers in general.Patrick Moraz also has a wide and varied career behind him including stints with Mainhorse, Refugee, The Moody Blues and more importantly Yes. Patrick has also released many diverse albums ranging from concept albums through to music with a Brazilian feel and more importantly jazz. In fact it was a love of jazz which no doubt sowed the seeds of the Bruford/Moraz musical partnership. Although neither Bill or Patrick played together at the same time in Yes both musicians have a great love and more importantly an understanding of Jazz and these talents are heard to great effect on the album Flags. Originally released in 1985 following Moraz's split from the Moody Blues and a period when King Crimson was in hibernation, Bruford and Moraz turn in a stellar performance on an album of original material written either by Patrick Moraz or written by both Moraz and Bruford. There is however one cover and that is the Max Roach composition The Drum Also Waltzes. The album was originally released on EG Records in the mid eighties however this re released version will now appear as the second release on the Winterfold imprint. Winterfold has been formed to release the albums Bill Bruford recorded with his band Bruford in the late seventies and early eighties and also the albums Bill recorded with Patrick Moraz. The album will be re mastered for re release and will be one of many future releases on the Winterfold label
