4 out of 5 stars a classic for sure!   November 27, 2007

Wrestlemania 20,and 20 years in the making, and 'where it all begins ....again'.This tagline was fitting because the event was staged as it was twenty years earlier in madison square garden, new york, the wwe could have filled out an arena three times the size but the garden has been good to the wwe and vice versa so it was fitting to return.
In 1985 when vince mcmahon launched the event he could never have imagined the success that it would create, never,in 1985 vince mixed with MTV to get a host of star names to help the event along, these days stars of tv and music beg to get a chance to feature in any way, thats success folks.
The first wrestlemania had 9 matches ,wrestlemania 20 had 12 and 7 titles up for grabs,it truly was an event of grand scale. The atmosphere was electric, the hype justified, and the event while not 100 percent perfect shines brighter than just about anything else.
The opening match is for the united states championship, the champ big show came up against a fledgling in john cena,at this juncture cena was still making bad raps that he would soon leave behind as his character propelled, the match was good, and the result pleasing, from here cena rarely had to look back.
nest up was a fatal four way tag team title match, the match was certainly busy, high octane stuff with some mat wrestling included, the match was intense but also entertaining and in the end the result came secondary to a high flying, rich in ability match.
Once a fine duo,the next match had once friends, christian as heel fighting chris jericho who was all loved up with trish, the cause of the fight in the end, this was a fine match with two skilled wrestlers taking time to wrestle despite a hatred of each other, the result was a surprise but more from this duo was to follow, yes another fine match.
Next up was one of my fave matches of the night, evolution, well three quarters of,as in ric flair who was on tip top form and played the crowd like a flute, randy orton and the fierce batista vs the rock n sock connection as in mick foley with the hollywood star at the time the rock returning with no real intent on staying as his career in movies was under way.Mick foley himself had not fought in four years so the duo may have appeared rusty in some areas compared to a very obvious force in evolution but a great contest ensued.Th result was typical in that whoever had the longevity thereafter in the company needed the win but all the same i was entertained throughout, class.
A two and a half minute ladies evening gown followed and wasnt the worst match in the world but didnt really help or hinder the event so in some ways was pointless, but let me say that i have seen worse.
Th cruiserweight open invitation match followed and was one of the best 11 minutes of the night, ten athletes in total flying from pillar to post giving their all, busting their guts to take the title of chavo, pacey isnt the word for this ,the entrants came and went fast enough so there was so much to watch, blink and you would miss some of these moves,i have been critical of this division in the past, here i was made to eat humble pie ,a job more than well done.
Next up was a match that the crowd hated,to them this match stunk the place out but here is the funny thing,i liked it,it was goldberg vs brock lesnar with stone cold as special guest referee. It was known in many quarters that both of the men in the fight were leaving the company, that soured the mood somewhat but both men were cagey and reluctant to lock up,both being powerful and proud men, there was a sense to me that this match was more real than some would imagine, the crowd were callous in their remarks to two men who wanted to do something else with their lives, the match in the end wasnt the most eventful but still good, two men who gave little away and in the end stone cold brought the colour back to the crowds faces and the match passed well in my opinion,am i the only one?
Another fatal four way tag team for the championship follwed and wasnt as good as the other fatal four way of the night,a match that featured scotty 2 hotty as champ will never get me off my seat but this match wasnt all bad, short and sweet enough.
A close to five minute ladies match followed that had some decent things going for it,victoria fought molly holly and if molly didnt win she would have her hair shaved off by victoria, well what we wanted to see happened and certainly molly was brave to allow her lock locks to be whipped off,but ultimately this match seems a little high up on the bill for me but uyet again wrestlemania 20 produced two womens matches that werent the worst i have seen so well done to all,i must be fair.
The final three matches followed and by now we were getting into the meat and bones of the card, first up was wwe champ eddie guerrero vs kurt angle,i have always thought highly of both athletes,if i had to choose the better of them i would say kurt, but this was a classic match that wont be forgotten in the years to come,no chance of that. Both men tore the place apart as they wrestled and damaged the other,in the end a clever piece of thinking lead to victory in what is a match i could happily watch again and again.
Kane and the undertaker followed and a rebirth of the taker,no longer was he the badass taker,he had returned as the icon we all know against a kane who was unbelieving of the takers rebirth after he had buried him alive. The match was good and over before too long, wasnt the greatest of the takers wrestlemania run but it was good, its hard to fault the way the taker dissects his oppenents and certainly kane lost this match in his head before it even began.
The main event served up a match that will forever be classified by myself as one of the greatest of the modern era,yes it was that good,a triple threat match for the title, the first time ever that the belt ws contested this way i think, crickey i could be wrong, forgive me if i am!Anyway, the champ triple h went up against his fierce rival at the time shawn michaels and against the royal rumble winner of the year chris benoit. The match had it all,we had blood,we had spills, thrills, extreme pain, technical ability by the bucketload and a fitting that sent shivers up my spine, the final sight of benoit and guerrero is more than moving for both men have since passed away,a year and a half later eddie died and just under three years later benoit killed himself and his family which wwe certainly dont like to talk about, but for all of that and regardless of what you think of the man now, this is a match that perhaps only benoit could have dominated and when all is said and done benoit was a wrestler and we really owe him for his efforts here.

5 out of 5 stars A great show, sadly tarnished by time.   November 23, 2007

The WWE have of course done their best to eradicate Chris Benoit from the annuls of history and, whether or not you agree with their philosophy (I personally don't, as I hold Benoit's career at least partly accountable for what happened anyway - you don't receive extensive brain-damage simply going to the supermarket), it's a sad fact that the legacy of the Crippler has pretty much been laid to rest along with him, his wife and his son. That said, I don't know whether the main-event, in which he participates, is still included on this DVD. If it isn't, it is probably the single biggest travesty in wrestling history, as the triple-threat with Michaels and Triple H is easily one of the ten best matches to ever take place at the event. You deserve to own this DVD for that match alone, but on top of that there's the true beginning of John Cena's rise to megastardom, a good Christian/Jericho match with a storyline twist, Undertaker's return to face Kane once more (in a rubbish match, but it was only there for the spectacle. Get Wrestlemania XIV to see what they're truly capable of against each other), the return of The Rock and Mick Foley, and an excellent WWE Championship match between Eddie Guerrero and Kurt Angle. All in all, if you can forget what supposedly went down in June this year, and as long as WWE haven't tried to rewrite history with this disk, this is an absolute must-have. If WWE HAVE altered the event, it still may be worth getting for Guerrero vs Angle.

US Championship.
John Cena vs Big Show
Thank God John Cena is a hell of a lot better in the ring, than he is on the Micke. Because otherwise he would be in serious troble. 4/5

Fatal 4 Way Tag Team Titles.
R.V.D & Booker T vs Dudleyz vs Cade & Jinddrak vs La Resistance
Seriusly boring match, good finnish tho. 3/5

Christian vs Jericho.
I belive that Chris Jericho is one of the greatest superstars of all time, and Trish is one of the greatest woman wrestlers of all time, and they could have been so buitufull together... 4/5

Rock `nĀ' sock connection vs Evolution.
Man Mick Folley really is C-R-A-P at WrestleMania, but I really didnĀ't expect him to be that C-R-A-P. 3/5

Evening gown match.
Sable & Torrie vs Jackie & Stacy.
I loved this match because they all took there gowns off, and wresled in the [...]. 100000000/5

Cruisierweight Campionship Open.
Mesterio vs Chavo vs Noble vs Kidman vs Tajiri vs Nunzio vs Dragon vs Funaki vs Shannon Moore.
Quik pinfalls, one submission, one count out, interferents... this match really did have it all. Not a very good finnish tho.

Brock Lesnar vs Goldburg (special refery Steve Austin).
Uuuuuuuum, When exacly are they actually going to wrestle??? For three quaters of this "match", they were just staring at each other and pasing around the ring. 0/5

Womans Title vs Hair match.
Victoria vs Molly Holly.
This was quite a good wrestling match, not a very good finnish tho, but still very kool, Victoria is a really DOMINANT force in the womans division. She prooved tonight that she really can wrestle aswell.

WWE Championship.
Guerrero vs Angle
Good wrestling, great finnish. Angle is the best pure athleete in the world ever. But Eddie Guerrero and his lying, cheating, and stealing,
was too much. Even for a guy like Kurt Angle.

Undertaker vs Kane
Qiute frankly, the entrance probably took longer than the match. But a guess thats fine since we hadnĀ't seen the Undertaker since Survivor Series. 3/5

World HeavyWeight Championship ( NO D.Q)
Excelent match, awsome end to the match. The Ravid Wolverine is the best tecnicall wrestler of all time, and damm it heĀ's the new World HeavyWeight Champion, so he IS FOR REAL!!! 100000000000/5

Wrestlemania XX - where it all begins...again.

This marked the 20th annual Wrestlemania, and it lived up to one of the greatest events of the past few years. Seven titles on the line, twelve different matches, one spectacular night that no WWE fan will forget.

1. United States Title: Big Show vs John Cena
A solid opening contest. Cena does some cool raps before the match, which really made Show angry. The match was, however, dominated by Show for most of it - but Cena used dirty tactics to win his first ever Wrestlemania and his first ever title. Good contest. 7/10

2. World Tag Team Titles Fatal 4-Way: The Dudley Boys vs Garrison Cade & Mark Jindrak vs La Resistance vs Booker T & Rob Van Dam
This was the first of two Fatal 4-Way matches, and this was the better one. Although it never seemed to excite the crowd (except when RVD came into the ring) it was very back and forth and quick-paced. Not groundbreaking, but still extremely enjoyable. Worth checking out. 8/10

3. Christian vs Chris Jericho
A very long, entertaining match this was. The rivalry, though, is too over-the-top and could be made a lot easier to follow. The match, on the other hand, really escalated the feud between Y2J and Christian. The ending is very surprising as well. Solid contest between two veterans, I liked this match. 9/10

4. 2-on-3 Handicap Match: Evolution (Batista, Ric Flair & Randy Orton) vs The Rock & Mick Foley
This was one of my favourite matches on the card and I'm surprised that it was so early on in the card. All five men performed brilliantly in one unique match, but the ending was pretty sad. These superstars are still as good now as they ever were (in Flair's, Rock's and Foley's cases) and Batista and Orton will be awesome in a few months' time. Not the best on the card, but certainly one of them. 9/10

5. Playboy Evening Gown Match: Sable & Torrie Wilson vs Stacy Kiebler & Miss Jackie
This wasn't necessarily wrestling at its finest, but it was entertaining to watch some smoking hot divas go at it "catfight" style. What's better; they did it in their underwear! This was basically a waste of time in Wrestlemania terms but it was a funny match - won't be remembered at all. 3/10

6. Cruiserweight Championship Open: Chavo Guerrero vs Ultimo Dragon vs Billy Kidman vs Tajiri vs Jamie Noble vs Funaki vs Akio vs Shannon Moore vs Nunzio vs Rey Mysterio
Very fast-paced and entertaining Cruiserweight match. It could have gone on much longer and the eliminations took place all too soon. Funaki lasted for about five seconds and Akio didn't get into the match! For it to have been much more enjoyable, it should have been a Battle Royal. I know it's odd but I love those matches so much. But the match wasn't all that bad, the wrong man won. 6/10

7. Goldberg vs Brock Lesnar (Stone Cold as Special Referee)
This was a real disappointment to Wrestlemania. It really spoils the show, especially thinking about how hyped it was and how many people wanted to see these two tear eachother apart. The match took ages to get going, and once it did, they didn't execute more than ten moves altogether. I was expecting much, much more - it's a real shame the match turned out the way it did. 2/10

8. WWE Tag Team Titles Fatal 4-Way: Rikishi & Scotty 2 Hotty vs The World's Greatest Tag Team vs The APA vs The Basham Brothers
Not as good as the previous Fatal 4-Way, but still worth watching. It was shorter and less action-packed but was better than some of the matches on the card. Not a bad encounter. 6/10

9. Women's Title: Victoria vs Molly Holly
This match seemed stupid as no-one enjoyed it and it was extremely short. If Molly lost, her head would be shaved. That's exactly what happened; the only painful thing was having to watch it. U.G.L.Y! I didn't really care about this match or its outcome; I just watched it anyway and wasn't impressed. 3/10

10. WWE Title: Kurt Angle vs Eddie Guerrero
A great match! These two perform in a fantastic contest for the Smackdown prize - the WWE Title. This is the 3rd best match of the night and it had a superb and hilarious ending. Angle's face was classic! Watch it because it is simply great. This should have been match no. 11 though. 9.5/10

11. Kane vs Undertaker
This marked the return of the Phenom after being buried alive by Kane in November. Undertaker had a really eerie entrance and he performed like he had never left WWE. Kane never really got a proper advantage - not surprising because this match was made to simply give Undertaker his opportunity for revenge. Not a five-star Undertaker match, but very good overall. 7/10

12. World Heavyweight Title: Triple H vs Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit
One word: Awesome! A simply breathtaking match which really shows how great Wrestlemania is. This is indeed one for the ages, one of the best matches I have seen. Benoit finally gets what he has fought so long for, HBK and Triple H gave it their all - but it wasn't enough to prevent Benoit from achieving his dream. Everything you could want in a Wrestlemania main event. Outstanding - you must watch it! 10/10

Cena comes out to rap at the beginning about how Big Show is. Good-ish match a bit slow with Big Show dominating to start off with. Good ending and Cena gets his first taste of WWE gold. 8/1O

Backstage: Eric Bischoff asks Coach to searc for The UnderTaker
Backstage: Evolution. Randy Orton talking about kicking Mick Foley's ass.

Fatal Four-Way for the World Tag Team Championship

Best of the two tag team matches that night. Cool move involving RVD and Booker. Good ending. 8.5/10

Backstage: Coach looking for 'Taker only to find some old veterans making out. Grim.

Chris Jericho Vs. Christian
Lame. Thats all I can say. 3/10

Backstage: Mick Foley getting interviewed and The Rock interupts and says that The Rock n Sock Connection are going to beat Evolution. Rock still has the best mic skills.

2-on-3 Handicap Tag Team Macth
Rock 'n' Sock Connection Vs. Evolution
Good match throughout. Didn't like the ending. Foley's first match in four years. Some funny parts, look out for those. 9/10

WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2004
I skipped this bit.

First-Ever Playboy Evening Gown match
Sable & Torrie Wilson Vs. Stacy Keibler & Miss Jackie
Cool match. All the women strip at the beginning. Intersting pin from Torrie. 6/10

Backstage: Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit talk about the WWE title matches that night.

First-Ever WWE Cruiserweight Championship Open
Chavo Guerrero(c) vs Jamie Noble vs Funaki vs Ultimo Dragon vs Rey Mysterio vs Nunzio vs Tajiri vs Shannon Moore vs Billy Kidman
Good-ish match with good moves throughout Ending sucked. 6/10

Goldberg Vs. Brock Lesnar-Stone Cold Stave Austin as Special Guest-Referee
Quite slow. The crowd hating Lesnar and Goldberg. Ended the way it should. 7/10

Mr McMahon comes out to thank all of the WWE fans for the last twenty years of WrestleMania.

Fatal Four-Way for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Scotty 2 Hotty & Rikishi(c) vs APA vs Basham Brothers vs World's Greatest Tag Team
Ok-ish match, both Tag championship matches were good but the RAW one earlier was better. Good ending. 8/10

Jesse "The Body" Ventura interviews Donald Trump: Skipped this too.

Women's Championship-Title vs Hair
Victoria(c) vs Molly Holly
Excellent ending and funny. Ok-ish match. Victoria shaved Molly's head bald!!! Cool. 8/10

WWE Championship
Eddie Guerrero(c) vs Kurt Angle
Good match. Sneaky ending from Eddie (RIP). Angle gets very frustrated. 8.5/10

Undertaker vs Kane
Better than their previous WrestleMania encounter. A bit short. 'Taker still proving he's the best. Kane can't believe that 'Taker was still 'alive'. 9/10

Triple Threat World Heavyweight Championship Match
Triple H(c) vs Shawn Michaels vs Chris Benoit
Awesome match with the best ever ending. Benoit finally getting what he deserves. 11/10

This box-set has SO many extras, check out the WrestleMania countdown. And the Mania of WrestleMania

The best WrestleMania of the lot. A must have for any true fan of WWE. "WrestleMania XX, where it all begins...again."
