Editorial Reviews:

Picking up six months after the end of Skins' maiden season, this second series maintains the terrifically high standard set by the first. In its basic form a drama about teenagers, the trick to Skins is that it sidesteps the many, many clichés of the genre, and instead offers gritty, quite brilliantly written television.

What's more, Skins is viewing that pulls no punches. By turns very funny, gripping and dramatic, it picks up the story of a group of under 20s in Bristol, dealing with issues of religion, sexuality and sex, among others. But it does this through a cast of three dimensional characters (each facing tough challenges of their own), suitably well realised by the primarily young cast. A selection of guest stars, including Harry Enfield, Bill Bailey and Shane Richie also appear.

But is the second series of Skins better than the first? Yes, not least because it's willing to take risks, to evolve and darken the narrative a little, yet still remember to put its characters at the fore. It's still a show that may baffle an older audience, but stands as a shining beacon as to what Channel 4 can achieve when it backs proper British dramas. Roll on series three. --Jon Foster

4 out of 5 stars Music changes, always a bad thing.   June 6, 2008
Nereis (Spain)
The season is great, but in the dvd edition they've changed some important songs like 'Time to pretend' from 1x10-"Everyone", or 'Hometown Glory" from 1x09-"Cassie".
That just sucks and it's the reason I give it four stars instead of five. I'll still probably buy the pack, but it will not be the same.

I absolutely loved series 1 one of Skins. found the rawness, humour and storylines awesome. I think it was written really well, and every week I couldn't wait for the next episode. This series was such a massive let down. The plots were a disaster, the characterisation was non-existent - we learnt hardly anything new - old storylines were never concluded - even the title music was pathetic! I soon realised why, they had some 19 year old lad writing the scripts (no diss respect to young up and comming writers) who lacked experience - he didn't even have dynamism in his writing, which could have been a reason for his employment (I'm still yet to find one.). The reason this is two stars instead of one, is the actors. Was cast beautifully, and the performances were as good as they could have been with a poor script. Such a let down. Don't bother buying - watch the re-runs if you feel you have to.

5 out of 5 stars still great - but quite dark / sadden compared to series I   May 17, 2008

really enjoyed watching series I when I stayed in the UK for half a year; now I almost finished watching series II on dvd;

acting and story line improved compared to series I, but it also became much darker and sadder - so don't expect a feel good tv show - series II really can bring you down if you're in a bad mood.

don't get me wrong, it's absolutely worth watching and brilliantly done but I think it would have been even more fun to watch
with a stronger focus on the friendship with a bit less drama (People dying) and more funny stuff.

looking forward for series III although I don't know what to expect as they're about to swap the whole cast (which I don't think is a good idea as the old one is really really likeable and made Skins).

hopefully series III it will be less sadden :-)

for the meantime i'll continue with Shameless which is great too;

(sorry about my English but as I'm from Germany I can't do any better :-))

I'm a 23 years old boy from Belgium. I really loved season one, the cast is awesome, and the dialogues are so good written.

4 out of 5 stars Yet again they changed the music...why?   May 6, 2008

What I don't understand is why do channel 4 not pay out for the original music used in the series, in one of the best moments of the series at the end of episode 9 when adele 'hometown glory' is used, it makes the scene. now its just not the same as the music has been changed. I love this show and when it's shown on tv at first is when it is the best but why must they alter the music.
