Somebody PLEASE save us! We are being sucked into the jaws of the horrid iPod monster! HELP! HELP!
Good stuff! July 8, 2008 Mr. P. D. Vincent (Doncaster, UK) This is a fantastic mp3 player; easy to use and very good quality audio (when used with a good pair of earphones or headphones). There are plenty of critics on here, complaining about audio quality, but at the end of the day, mp3 quality is never going to be as good as on a CD (whichever model or make you go for), and if you are particularly picky you can go on to say the same about CDs and Vinyl LPs. An MP3 player is there for convenience, and the ipod nano is extremely convenient without much degradation of quality at all.

My Mobile Phone Sounds Better July 3, 2008 S. Dignam (Scotland) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I got my iPod Nano for free along with a mobile phone and thought I was getting a great deal. If I'm honest neither were that great at playing music and the phone was given to my girlfriend. I have an old Sony Ericson k750i and loved the mp3 playback. The sound quality was superb but it was a drain on my battery if used for a while. I thought with the iPod that this issue would be resolved and with everyone saying how good they were I felt confident that this was the answer. The first time I played any music in my iPod I was shocked at how poor the sound quality is. It sounds very very tinny and there is almost no bass. There is an EQ function built in, that means you can switch between poor sound to really bad sound to not so bad that you want to shove a needle into your ears. My phone had a small number of settings for the mp3 player but it was all you needed, it was loud, clear and with an impressive bass boost it sounded very good indeed. The iPod has been nothing more than a gimmick for people who are interested only in how things look. Yes the iPod is "pretty" but it is not worth paying money for. I would urge anyone who wants to buy this to think very hard before handing over money. If you buy a less well known brand that does not mean it won't be as good as an iPod, in fact you will most likely find that you'll save money and get a better product. There are loads of people who say the poor sound is down to the headphones with the iPod but this is not the case. Using the iPod headphones I listened to a track on my laptop, I then listened to the same track on the iPod and it was like night and day. The iPod was very crackly at high volume and the treble was way too high. On my laptop it sounded clean and clear. There was a very obvious difference between the two. I'm lucky as I didn't have to pay for my iPod but trust me, it's a massive let down after all the hype.
