5 out of 5 stars Great for 3rd party firmware hacking!   May 31, 2007
M. Tombs (UK)
You may be disappointed with the old unsupported inflexible Linksys firmware, but this modem is generously supplied with 4Mb flash memory 16Mb ram (at least the one I bought from Amazon!) and is well supported by 3rd party Routertech firmware(*) based on the opensource GPL code distributed by Linksys and others for this Ti chip router. which enables many features Linksys didn't bother with - such as ADSL2+, Connection stats on web display etc etc and hopefully someday a fully functioning half-bridge PPPOA mode for use with the similarly packaged WRT54GL router.

(*) Loading 3rd party firmware is at your own risk, and will void warranty etc etc.

4 out of 5 stars Good and simple   May 2, 2007

Great replacement for the USB modem that seems to come standard with ADSL Broadband. I am using this with a Linksys WRT54GS Wireless Router I already had and the two have worked very happily with each other. It's very simple to set up and logs onto my Virgin Media ADSL connection quickly and easily and all by itself.

This modem works a treat for replacing that USB *(driver based) modem. Don't try and install the ethernet from within windows but use your browser instead and follow the instructions in the manual for connecting ethernet.
After that - I've had flawless connections without user names or passwords to the internet and things have speeded up considerably.
Just remember you don't need usb for this and remember to have your ethernet switched on in the bios of your computer.
I thought it would be difficult installing this but it was easy once i realized all I had to do was access a code from within my browser window and put in my ISP password and user name and away I went.

1 out of 5 stars AOL dosen't want to know....   April 2, 2007

If your ISP is AOL, DON'T BUY THIS. I have tried endlessly to get this to work my AOL but it can't even make a simple connection. YOU'D THINK A MODEM IS A MODEM. No bones about it! I have tried everything, support, forums but nothing works.

Pretty poor.

1 out of 5 stars Bitter disappointment   February 21, 2007

I bought this modem, thinking that it would work with a Linksys WRT54G router that I'd already got. After several long evenings using every possible resource on the Linksys website and gleaning as much info as I could from various other websites, I have had no joy in getting these two components to work together. They're designed to stack very neatly on top of each other but that's as compatible as they seem to get.

To rub salt in, I've now seen them advertised, a few days later for less than half of what I paid.
