Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
All the features of the iPod nano now come in an even more compact form ? with video functions to boot!Apple proudly presents the new and improved version of its nano player: the iPod nano, with a bold new design and a larger, brighter colour screen. The iPod nano has a video function for viewing your favourite films in exceptional quality thanks to its incredible pixel count, at 204 dpi instead of 163 dpi for earlier Apple models. And the iPod nano continues to push the envelope for multimedia entertainment, with the ability to play video Podcasts!Even the interface has been modified to make it even more user-friendly and intuitive. The Cover Flow function, for example, displays the album cover of all the music tracks stored in the player?s memory, so you can flip through your music library and find your favourite songs quickly and easily. You?ll also be able to download games onto your iPod nano to serve as a distraction during those long commutes. It even has a range of functional features, including a calendar, international clock and a stopwatch! But more astounding than all these features is the fact that the iPod nano is even more compact than its predecessors! Its anodised aluminium and stainless steel body reflects the same stylish design that Apple iPods are known for, and the sound quality is still as amazing as ever! Let yourself go, with the iPod nano!

4 out of 5 stars More style than substance, otherwise great   May 16, 2008
G. Andreou (London)
I bought this to replace my Creative Zen Jukebox, a chunkier but more robust mp3 player, so that's what I'm comparing it to.

In summary:

Pros:
- very small and light
- nice bright display and a good size
- cover flow (the ability to scroll through you albums by cover) is a nice touch
- the circular touch control is great for navigating very quickly through large lists
- Battery life is more than sufficient, allowing for more than 20 albums on a single charge (will be much less if you watch videos though)
- volume is sufficiently loud without being deafening

Cons:
- if your thumb is larger than a child's the controls can be awkward - when pressing the central button you'll often inadvertently touch the circular touch controls and adjust the volume or scroll down a list
- occasional file corruption - one of my songs cuts out before the end. This doesn't appear to be uncommon with nanos. I copied come music on a 2GB nano and it refused to play one particular song, whether ripped directly from CD or copied from a mp3 file on my PC.
- curruption with album art, some covers remain black, despite recopying, deleting and re-copying from my PC.
- the circular touch control is awkward to use when trying to scroll up or down a single item in the list
- photo quality is not great (I suppose because it resizes them to fit)
- the supplied headphones are OK but not great, you can get a better pair for around 12 pounds (I wouldn't wear white ones anyway!)
- the default screensaver is the clock, but I can't find a way to change this to the `Now Playing' screen, I can't see why you can't cutomise this

So it's not the most stable piece of kit, the controls can sometime be a pain but, as I expected with ipods, this is the sacrifice you make for something which packs so much in such a small space, and seems to be aimed at people who are more concerned about image than function.

4 out of 5 stars Very pleased, I can't fault it   May 1, 2008

This is a really good little player. I especially like being able to use it in conjunction with my itrip, which means I can play my songs through any radio including the one in my car.

5 out of 5 stars Wow - once again   April 15, 2008

I recently lost my beloved first generation iPod nano at security in a Spanish airport so I decided it was time to treat myself to the present (third) generation and once again I have been blown away.

This model holds twice the music my old one did, and is capable of supporting video, photo and podcasts. The nano also benefits from a larger screen and more battery life, in order to enjoy your digital media to the full.

If you're familiar with Apple and their iPods then this is an excellent addition to their tree.

Really good. Plenty of memory for music with enough for some videos/pictures. Worth buying and is really portable. Easy to use and download onto so worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Impressive Little Unit and Video, too!   March 13, 2008

Am very impressed with my new nano. Sound quality & volume is, I think, better than the new classic. Its small size may shock the first time you see it but the screen is bigger than the old one and reasonable for music videos. Good text size, flow features and colours. 8G is more than enough memory for me.

Only cons are the usual ones about iTunes, especially no or limited album art support for ripped tracks which was never a problem for microsoft and no support for protected wmas from other providers even tho you have a current license. If a PC user and switching to iTunes from another provider, read the bit in Help about managing your music BEFORE you set up iTunes and your iPod. Pay attention during set-up: Choosing to manage your music yourself is the way to go. Oh, and the nice shiny new metal back marks easily, so a skin is a good idea if you shove it in pocket/handbag with all your other stuff.

Amazon has the cheapest price.
