5 out of 5 stars Very large storage and good speed   September 26, 2008

This is a great memory stick.

When I opened mine I was surprised how small it was and yet it felt quite solid. It's sheathed in clear plastic as a protective cover which can be slid off to reveal the device's very tiny size - is there really 8gb in there?!?!?! Fanatastic!

I thought at first glance 'Oh, it would have been nice to have had some kind of LED activity indicator' and went ahead and plugged it into my machine. Lo and behold the keyring loop area of the device lit-up! Nice. The unit flashes red to indicate activity and gently brightens and dims to indicate no data being transfered. It might annoy some people after a while I guess but I thought it was a cool touch. See how I feel after a few hours.

A quick test of the stick's speed went as follows:

2 gigs (2.07 gigs to be precise) of large zip files from computer to card in 3 mins 45 seconds.

The same stuff transferred back in 1 min 26 seconds.

Write speed around: 9.2 MB sec
Read speed around: 24 MB sec from the figures above.

They are some pretty handy numbers. I guess you could fill the card in around 15 minutes.

Only minus is that I reckon its size makes it easy to lose but theres no way I'm knocking points off for that - just a heads up to keep an eye on it!

3 out of 5 stars Reasonable mid range USB flash key   September 22, 2008
S. Wheeler (UK)
As mentioned in other reviews, the end of this USB key glows a red/orange colour and is very bright (and the pulsing when active becomes annoying). Dimensions (including USB connector) are 19mm x 7mm x 54mm for the Width x Height x Depth. Removing the plastic sleeve reduces these a tiny bit.

The speed of the device is roughly 21Mbytes/second when reading and a lower 6Mbytes/second when writing. This seems reasonable for a product of this price and size (but if you are willing to pay more for a bulkier unit you can get USB flash keys that have write speeds of 18-30Mbytes/second).

5 out of 5 stars Its Tiny!   August 20, 2008

What more do you need? I pretty much only ever buy SanDisk when it comes to SD Cards for my camera or phone but I was in the market for a memory stick. Knowing full well 2GB is never enough I stumbled across the SanDisk Cruzer Micro 8GB whilst acctually looking for a 4GB memory stick. For the sake of a few extra I thought why not. I'm VERY impressed. Its fast, does what its supposed too and its smaller than many other USB memory sticks on the market. The only downside I can think of is the cap. Rather than clicking or locking into place it just slides over the usb connector so it "may" be easy to lose if u plan to attach it to a key ring for example. that said i would still recommend this product to anyone.

5 out of 5 stars 'The best yet!'   August 19, 2008

I use my USB keys a lot and have gone through three in two years. My last one was a 'Buffalo 8gb.' which broke in two after about six weeks, so it's replacement needed to be quick and tough.
This little device fits the bill perfectly!
It's as quick as the Buffalo was (very) and looks virtually indestructable!
You can make sure you don't lose the cap (assuming you don't have any pockets!) by using a short length of fishing line, passed through a hole in the end of the cap (use a hot needle) and knotted. Then simply tie the other end to the loop on the key itself. Problem solved!

5 out of 5 stars A very good buy!   August 12, 2008

To be as practical as possible a flash memory drive needs to be small and this little device (as the name suggests) is tiny which means its also light weight and compact. In the past I have used FMDs that are so bulky they prevented me from using the other USB ports, which I found most irritating but this device doesn't have that problem at all. Past FMDs with bulky casings felt unnecessary and less tough, with this device I feel there's less chance of me breaking it especially with its metal casing and clear polyurethane skin.

On that note of the polyurethane skin, it feels better than the usual cheap hard plastic casings prone to cracking. It lends protection against shock but also the weather and with our British weather thats a big plus, however, I wouldn't suggest submerging it in water (yet that goes without saying about most electronic devices). It also doesn't fly quite as far across the table as my other FMD when I accidently knock it.

The bright orange LED is a plus in my book! In bright sunlight it can be difficult to see the LEDs on some other memory sticks but this device combats that very well. The only time I would possibly find it annoying is if I used it in the dark for a long period of time.

The cap fits snug and securely, thus less chance of losing it. Due to the lanyard connection the cap doesn't fit over the end but if you're scared of losing or forgetting the cap while in use, use your common sense and put it in your pocket! I personally prefer the keyring loop to be on the memory stick itself rather than on the cap.

Copying and storing files on this device is very quick and easy. You will of course notice that it does only show to have 7.47GB compared to the promised 8GB but surely everyone knows by now that with any memory storage you don't get the full memory capacity listed.

Nothing is perfect but this is the best device I've seen for my needs (so far). A great solid little device well worth 5 stars.
