The best smartphone money can buy! July 23, 2008 Father Ed (Lancs England) I must begin by coming clean: I have been a fan of Palm OS since I began using Palms in 1998. I use my device everyday, many times, as I rely it to organise my busy diary schedule. Since then I have had experience of both main platforms (Palm & MS). In terms of speed/ functionality/ stabililty and ease of use Palm wins hands down. This handset is no exception. As a phone it is great, but there are several caveats overall. Like many devices which try to do too many things it does some exceptionally well, some well, but some only average. Its camera is OK but is not as good as many camera phones, but even they cannot hold a candle to a real camera! The phone and internet browser are lacking 3G. There is no WiFi. Where is shines is that it sports Palm OS for its PDA functions, and there are many 1000's of apps around to enhance it which are not available to any other platform. Palm OS (along with Datebook 6) is easily the best PDA platform around for functionality and ease of use. They cannot be beaten. Long live Palm
No Wi-Fi.. Palm Treo 680 is no more... July 23, 2008 C. Carvalho The product is good.. the software.. interface and even its looks.. but Palm made a great mistake by not allowing this device to wi-fi. Its one of those things that is simply 'A MUST' in this day and age. Also the fact that the PC software does not allow the transfer of .mp3 files via the usb is also another silly mistake. This will do if you have a small budget and/or if you are a fan of Palm.. but its not a product that will make you jump in excitment.
Dont Buy From Amazon May 6, 2008 Mr. J. P. Grimley 1 out of 10 found this review helpful
Wish amazon would sort out there pricing, had one in basket for 149 they then ran out of stock now they are 206 - why. They are only 149 at PC World and we all know they are one of the most expensive shops around! Sorry amazon you lost a customer.
Disappointing response from Palm Tech Support March 25, 2008 L. English (Hampshire, England) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I love my Treo 680, but recently my phone carrier, Orange, ceased support for it, which means that although I can make phone calls, I can't use the web or e-mail. I've been doing some online research but haven't yet found a carrier which specifically mentions the Treo 680, so I e-mailed Palm Tech Support, explained my problem, and asked if they could let me know which carriers do (or don't) support the 680. Their response? "Just find out for yourself." (True quote!) So although I would have given the Treo 5 stars, I'm going to have to deduct one for Palm's really strange idea of what constitutes customer service.
Excellent so far December 3, 2007 SkatertnyP (Poland) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought my new Palm Treo 680 ten days ago and was much impressed by how speedily and simply it got started when I inserted my Tesco payg SIM card. When I upgraded to an O2 card with web access and tapped in my Gmail coordinates, the Palm downloaded 47 emails faster than I would have thought possible (ie less than a minute). It also linked to the Internet really quickly with one tap on the Web icon. I now have downloaded Google Maps (log on to Google website via the Treo, tap the link, maybe a minute or so to do) and the clarity/cleverness/speed of this free programme on the Treo is quite remarkable - see eg the way a Google maps search result (nearby restaurant) can be clicked straight into Treo Contacts. There are countless other neat touches in the way the device works, but for this reason one does have to invest some time in playing with it to work them all out. The battery ebbs away steadily over the day, but as I have bought a cheap car charger I'll be fine. Basically, a stunningly simple and resourceful smartphone. I am delighted. Update: One awkwardness is that items sent direct from the Treo email area via Gmail do not appear in either my Gmail account or in the PC Outlook Sent box. Odd. Not clear to me whether this is a glitch or a failure to get my settings right somewhere. The investigation continues.
