Survivors September 13, 2008 Tom Douglas (Oxford, United Kingdom) As pretty much every reviewer says, these are great headphones. They would be a good buy at 60, and you can now get them for less than 40. I bought mine five years ago and they still rock - the pivots are way looser than when new, but that was always going to happen, but everything else is as new. Great sound, great sound insulation, very comfortable. Apart from splashing 150 on Bose, these ARE the headphones you want to buy.
Astounding August 30, 2008 Dominic Owens (UK) When i got these headphones this morning i thought i was still dreaming. Their looks are sleek and minimalistic, whereas the sound is a far cry from that. After i had got over the cool folding mechanism and adjusted them to fit my head i plugged them into my headphone amp and was blown away. Truly astounding crisp highs and floor crunching bass. i cant reccomend these headphones any more highly than i am, for the price and even for 20 more you wont find a better set of headphones both in terms of looks, feel and quality, needless to say im enjoying them greatly.
DON'T BUY SONY! - LOOK ELSEWHERE! July 14, 2008 L Detsllew (UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I rang Sony recently to tell them how unhappy I was with these headphones and for help in finding someone who could repair them. It seems that there is a break in the connection to the right ear. I was told to throw the headphones in a bin because they would be too costly to repair. I have owned a set of these headphones for just over a year. During 2007 they were only used in my home, by me, to listen to music when sitting at the computer or when listening to music, sitting on a sofa connected to my I-pod while my partner watched boring TV. The point I wish to make is that these headphones have only been used occasionally, used only by me, in a clean and calm situation, yet they have failed! Sold for the DJ, I don't believe that these headphones are up to it! Sony says:- `built with high-end materials' & `these headphones fit the bill for a sound professional'. - My Arse! DON'T BUY SONY!
Great build and punchy mid sound March 24, 2008 Mr. H. C. Orr (Littlehampton, England) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The first thing you will notice about these headphones is the superb build quality. The earphone housing and headband are made of strong but lightweight metal; the sliders on the adjustable headband are easy to position and stay in their grooves. Straight out of the box, the headphones look excellent, right down to the rubberised headband covering with the brand name printed on it. On to the sound quality, I have read people criticise the lack of a booming bass component to the sound from this product. While I would agree that the bass is not the collosal earth-shaker that fans of happy hardcore would demand, this conversely means that the sound remains balanced and well-suited to a variety of musics, from Burzum to Korn to Autechre. Moreover, the punchy mid to the sound helps mask any shortcomings in the bass and means that the sound takes on a very warm, full-bodied quality. The one downside to this product is the cable. Whilst extremely strong, the coiled lead can sometimes drag quite a bit, meaning that your head can get pulled to one side when the cord is stretched. The headphones are best used, therefore, in relatively close proximity to the music source. At around 35, these headphones are great value for money. Durable, stylish and with a neatly balanced sound, they are good for anyone wanting to travel with their headphones.
Great Value March 18, 2008 Andrew Commins (London, U.K.) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Not bad at all! For 38.00 I can't really complain with these Sony V500. I have recently just bought a Mac Book Pro and needed some decent headphones for my music / games / mixing / music production. I also wanted something light as all the top of the range headphones seem to possess the weight of a jumbo. I also wanted something below 40.00 as I already am so broke from buying my Mac Book. The trick is, how do you get find a pair of headphones in this price range, with quality sound, and looks great too. Look no further, these babies have made my day! I don't quite understand the people's reviews complaining about the bass volume. I think it is fine, plus if you want more bass, ever heard of an EQ? I mix music on my Mac and they work like a charm. Pros Price High Quality Sound you'd expect from Sony Well balanced volume Looks great Long Cable Cons It certainly does stick to your ears a bit too much. After using it for long periods, it isn't very comfortable on the ears. (However - we also have a pair of Sony V700 and Technics DH1200 which are top of the range DJ headphones, and I can say they are all uncomfortable after long periods of usage.) The V500 are at least a bit lighter so it doesn't feel like you are wearing a helmet. Overall an excellent product by the electronic giants. 4/5 as they aren't perfect but getting close.
