Product Description The slim mono-body of the SBA290 portable speaker system slips easily into your pocket or bag. Share the powerful and realistic stereo sound stage with friends wherever you are, and experience amazing rich bass quality even at low volume. Enjoy dynamic sound and powerful bass performance from your ShoqBox with XSL Acoustics. Impressive sound is produced by combining bright, brisk treble and mid range sound with elastic, powerful bass. Innovative use of high-tech materials like titanium cone and neodymium magnet deliver sound output that's nearly double the power of a traditional speaker driver of the same size. Precise tuning between the speaker driver, the small acoustic architecture and the circuitry ensures superbly dynamic sound and optimises bass performance from the smallest sound enclosure. Activate the Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB), and the low end bass frequencies are electronically enhanced to achieve consistent sound reproduction, especially when the speaker volume is set at a low level. You hear impressive bass at all times.

Philips SBA290/05 November 11, 2008 Mr. Dag Smith (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I agree these are excellent but as to cost may I suggest that you try Tesco. They are even cheaper at only 12.49. It is well worth shopping around!
Forget Ipod docking stations... September 15, 2008 J. Mousley (UK) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I 'settled' for these speakers after not being able to find a decent docking station for my ipod that I could power on batteries while I'm travelling round the world. These speakers are amazing - for their size and cost, the sound quality is spot on - tried them out this morning with Audioslave and then with a live Carl Cox mix and they absolutely rock!! I've got a marantz and kef hi-fi and while these speakers can't shake the walls like that system, they certainly keep me entertained. The speakers come with a headphone extension cable and a great little pouch to store them in. The connecting lead folds away into the back of the unit to stop it getting damaged when being transported... So, forget Ipod/mp3 docks (unless you're spending mega-money) and buy these - they're 50 in PC world and 24 here - you can charge your ipod with a power lead and plug, or power it with a belkin battery pack for a tenner - save yourself a few quid, avoid cheap (expensive!) tat that's part of the ipod cartel and get yourself some cracking speakers too!! ps - pls don't think that I'm mr positive and that everything I write about is brill - frustratingly, there are a lot of misleading reviews on here - but these are a genuinely good product - see for yourself - go to pc world like I did, then buy them from amazon at less then half price!!
Great Speakers! Great Price! September 11, 2008 Mark S. Macrae (Edinburgh, UK) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Having bucked the trend and bought a Sony MP3 player (for the far superior battery life) I was disappointed that even Sony themselves do not make a relatively low priced dock / speakers for their own players but do make Ipod compatible ones (?! - go figure). I searched everywhere for a decent set of small speakers to use in the kitchen and having read a few reviews I decided upon these ones from Philips and boy am I glad I did! For the size and price I am genuinely blown away by the quality of this unit. The sound is crystal clear when playing tracks ripped at 128kbs. Let's face it you won't be replacing your home stereo with these but they are well worth the money if you want to listen in the kitchen or on the move. They take 6 AAA batteries which I've not tried yet but the included mains adaptor is a handy addition as is the travel pouch. The standard 3.5mm jack is on a rather short cable but that tidys away inside the battery compartment when they're not in use - clever, simple design.
Nice sound - good for hotel rooms August 8, 2008 Monkey Magic (England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have been using this for a couple of weeks now. The sound is good but not incredibly loud, but is pretty good for the size. So perfect for a hotel room but may be not for placement in a large room, like if you were staying in a villa or something. I am using a Creative Zen as the input, my friend's ipod produces a louder sound, so there is more sound in this unit than I first thought. There is a bass boost and an 'incredible sound' setting. Having both of these on gives the best sound. However, I get the feeling it could be a gimmic and having them off dampens the sound. Travel pouch supplied which is brilliant. My work takes me to hotel rooms so this is perfect for me.
