Poor quality webcam, and painful installation August 18, 2008 Steven Brown I bought this as it looked a very good value webcam. But unfortunately it looks like I got what I paid for. As another reviewer has noted, installation was painful. I just dumped the CD in the bin, as it just couldn't be read by the computer, and grabbed the installation files from the Logitech website. However, this wasn't straightforward, as it wasn't clear which model I had, and had to download a couple of install packages before I got the right one. When I did get it working, I was very disappointed in the quality. Under optimal light conditions, the picture is pretty grainy, and quite choppy. And if the room isn't completely bright, then you can barely see the camera image. I'm not being picky here - it struggles with what I would call an ordinary level of lighting in a room. In summary - steer clear. It's just not worth going for this to save a few pounds....
Worked straight out of the box but image quality isn't brilliant December 23, 2007 Mr. M. J. Gordon (United Kingdom) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Although I have yet to use the webcam in anger, the installation went as well as could be hoped for, and the software once installed has good functionality. The camera itself looks good, however the image is littered with bright dots, suggesting defects in the CCD. Still, for the price of the camera, and given that it's only for MSN/Skype I can't fault it.
Such a shame! November 23, 2007 M. Harknett (Ashingdon/Manchester, UK) 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
When I ordered this webcam I was very impressed with what it appeared to offer for the price, and now I have it I am not totally dissatisfied. It grips nicely to the top of the laptop screen, is easy to use and was definitely value for money. But man did it take a long time to get to that. The installation disc provided with the product was terrible. Quite simply, it did not work. The only way to get it to install everything properly, was to keep taking the disc out of the disc drive and putting it back in again. This was the only way that the disc would keep working. It kept stopping every so many seconds, and taking it out and putting it back in again was the only way to kick it off working again. Can you get any worse than that? I think you'll be hard pushed to do so. It took me over 2 hours of doing this to force the disc to finally work and install the software and get the camera going. The camera at 1.3 megapixels is quite jumpy and doesn't like to take smooth flowing videos which I fear will be annoying and hard going on the person viewing the image when video chatting online. The price of the product was great, although Amazon's delivery estimate was wrong and it took longer to come than suggested. But this is a basic webcam. I'm still not knocking it for the money though. But the software, well, let me put it this way, I hope I don't ever have to install this webcam on a different computer. I don't want to suffer another few hours of having to keep taking the disc out and putting it back in to keep it running. Think of suffering two hours or more of listening to a CD skipping, and that's the type of frustration the installation disc with this product will give you. If you want to give this ago, by all means go ahead. Once you get the webcam going I'm sure you'll think it's good for the money. But heed this warning if you're not that patient, then steer clear. The manufacturer has some problems to solve with the product, or more specifically, the installation of the software.
Logitech Quickcam for Notebooks October 6, 2007 Lorimer Watson (Ellon) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this little unit for my daughter who left for China in August. Since then my wife and I have had numerous video calls with her and the picture is very good indeed. My daughter reported no problems at all with the installation and setup of the camera. So all in all I am very pleased with my purchase. Although Logitech do not seem to make this model anymore I would certainly recommend anyone to buy it (while stocks last) as a good value for money, compact, portable, good quality webcam.
Good camera September 8, 2007 A. Kinsey (Tring, UK) 17 out of 17 found this review helpful
Very neat and compact usb webcam. Fits nicely on the top of my laptop screen with it's adjustable rubberised bracket (nice touch so it doesn't damage the screen). It also comes in its own soft case for easy transport on the go. The software supplied didn't work with Windows Vista but this can be downloaded from the Logitech website. All in all a good webcam
