Watch Out June 26, 2008 Moneymaker (Aylesbury, UK) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Bought this printer a few months ago, light home user. Scanning works well, resolution fine. Noisier than other printers when paper spools through, you get used to it. For purposes of comparison, it's about half the volume of a standard vacuum cleaner. The main criticism I have is that when any cartridge runs out the printer refuses to print anything until it is replaced, and there is no way round this. So if you have no replacements to hand then it won't let you print a single page in black when the black cartridge is still full. This is infuriating. I took this up with Epson customer services and was told the following: Epson - You need ink in all of the cartridges for the printer to function or it will cause damage to the print head. Me - But the cartridge is not really empty, it is well known that they still have a bit left in at this point. Epson - The reason for a small amount of ink being left in the cartridge after it has registered empty is to prevent air being drawn into the head and causing damage to the heads and ink delivery system. But doesn't that contradict their first point? When I pressed them on this, they just kept telling me about the inflated prices I could buy the cartridges directly from them at. I would seriously recommend buying a printer which will allow you to use black when the colour cartridge is very low (registering empty) my previous printer did this. One day you will regret buying this printer.
Do not buy! June 16, 2008 Mr. Colin Hoggett (Scotland) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I purchased this printer and was impressed with the ease of installation - however it went horribly wrong from there! Envelopes were a disaster - they jammed so tight I thought explosives would not shift them! On contacting Epson "Stuart" said "the envelopes are too heavy". I then attempted a colour print. Red and blue text became orange and green on the paper! A photocopy in red was enlarged and would not fit on the page - nor was it red in colour. I had my problems with HP printers but they were nothing compared to this. It is tacky cheap plastic, noisy in operation to a frightening degree and I would give it a minus if I could.
A heap of junk May 30, 2008 Mr. Bernard G. Matthews 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
After forking out 90 for this I found, not only does it warn you about losing the warranty if you use compatibles, but it actually stops you using them. It then goes on to refuse to work with Epson cartridges. So, if you want to avoid paying out 25 every time the flimsy cartridges run out, then look elsewhere. After a few days I fixed this. Now it gives continual error messages. I can't stress enough that you really shouldn't buy this rubbish.
Very dissappointed May 11, 2008 D. Morgan (London) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
purchased this just a week ago, thought it was time to upgrade from my Lexmark I really wished I hadn't.the printer is slower and much nosier than the Lexmark It gets through cartridges way too fast and you cannot replace the one.unlike my old printer. I cannot recommend this to anyone and I will have no choice but to put it on that auction site very soon and get another. I had high hopes for this. The name the hype but this has put me off Epson for Life.
