Amazing September 25, 2008 SJC (UK) These are great headphones - I bought them after doing some research online and am seriously glad that I chose these. They look great and they're really comfortable. Sound does leak a bit with these when you turn the volume up since they're open headphones, but according to what I read online you get a better sound with open headphones than you do with closed. I would definitely recommend these.
Very, very impressive! September 22, 2008 Mr. R. E. Spearing Firstly I'm going to contradict the other reviews here. One thing you should know about these headphones is that they are not designed for heavy bass and without eq it is weak. Having said that, with the use of eq the headphones can handle a fair bit bass so it is not at all a problem for me. The reason why the bass is fairly weaker than on most headphones is because they are incredibly natural and produce a flat, accurate sound. This makes them great for any recording work you want to do, while also being fantastic for listening to music. For the price the quality of these headphones is incredible, I can't get over how natural and clear sounding they are. Put it this way, there is a reason why Sennheiser has such a good reputation. I don't normally write reviews, but this case is a real exception and I would recommend these 1000x over to anyone! Pro's - Incredibly clear, detailed, balanced and accurate sound. - The price, incredible bargain! Con's - The looks, they would be more satisfying to own without the nasty grey-silver finish, but meh who cares when they sound this good! - For me they do lack on the bass side a little

I had never been a fan or had headphones, always preferring earphones. But I decided to go for better sound for music, gaming and movies. I also wear glasses and am extremely picky about my comfort levels(which is why I had never gone for headphones before). Well, as soon as I put the sennheiser 555's on my head I knew I had made the right choice. They are VERY confortable with glasses and easily forgetable without them. The sound didn't surprise me at first-it was good but not great- but that has all changed with only a few hours of play. I can only imagine what a few more dozen hours of burn-in will do for the sound. When listening to music it feels as if the band is right in front of you, but the sound resonates all around you. I find myself experiencing songs I've heard many times in a whole different way, hearing "hidden" sounds with a frightening clarity. I am wearing them right now, listening to pink floyd's "young lust" and I just don't feel like turning the music off. They are amazing to watch movies, because they give a very desirable surround feel("Lawrence of Arabia", anyone?) Don't have much to compare with, but I am very, very happy with this product and strongly advise it. I doubt you will find better for the price range(this is a bargain for the quality). PS: also, the cable just happens to be the exact size needed for free movement around my little home office.
Good high end speakers, ideal for a music lover July 25, 2008 Mr. P. J. Pears (Manchester, United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
As a student the idea of spending more then 15 for a pair of headphones was a little daunting and i still have no idea why i decided to shell out for these but i am really glad i took the plunge The sennheiser HD 555 are a superb set of headphones, they can be fitted to any size of head (from uber-large to tiny) the headphones are very light and easy to forget about and they are very very comfy to rest on your ears, they don't feel overly hot or heavy but just right The sound quality though is the most important thing and the Sennheiser HD 555 are a fantastic set of headphones, the sound quality is punchy and firm, its engrossing and surrounds you with the music you are hearing, if you close your eyes it will sound like the music is being performed right in front of you... + VERY comfy, light and easy to adjust + Fantastic sound quality, engrossing and constantly surrounding + Good value for your money, sound quality on par with 100+ headphones - They are really big...not the sort of thing you would wear out and about - The cable adaptor is larger and heavier then my mp3 player! Nevertheless this is a highly reccomended set of headphones!

I bought the HD 555's to replace my HD 650's as one of my pet rats decided to make a new nest out of them Grrr. I am blown away with the performance, they are not as good as the HD 650's which is to be expected for the price but are way way better than i was hoping for. I also own a pair of HD 415 and the difference is light and day between the two. They are a bit harsh at first and the treble/bass a bit muddled, but after a few days of "running in" the soundstage opens up very impressively. There a quite a difference depending on what source you plug them in to, on my I-pod they are still a force to be reckoned with, but when plugged into my Arcam gear they really excell. For the money these phones are fantastic and i can't think of one reason not to buy them.
