5 out of 5 stars Great sound and value   July 21, 2008
Mr. B. Bloye (Brighton, UK)
I bought a pair of these to use with my iPod Mini, and I was immediately impressed with the sound, which was clear, full and generally well-balanced. I feel they are very good value for money at under 20 (they retail for 40 at some outlets).

The key to success with these headphones is to find the best fitting buds. They should be snug inside the ear but only what you're comfortable with. Just try them all, swapping every few minutes until you find the best balance between sound and comfort.

Be sure to push the buds in to the ear properly, as this tight fit is what allows the strong bass response. It may feel a little odd at first, but after a couple of days use you will get used to it.

1 out of 5 stars Thin and Tinny - Avoid   July 7, 2008

Well, my review is different to (almost) every one else here, it seems.

I bought these headphones for my daughter to replace the originals supplied with the Creative Zen 4Gb media player (excellent bit of kit). To say I am disappointed is an understatement.

Most other comments seem to be very positive, but that just doesn't reflect my experience. The sound on these phones, for me, is awful - thin, tinny and totally lacking bass. Now, looking at what others have said, these phones can sound poor if they are not worn properly, so it may be that we have not been able to get a good fit. However, my daughter and I have tried every set of ear pads and every conceivable way of pushing the phones in to our ears. We've also listened on four different pieces of equipment, but the result was always the same - bass-less, high-pitched, thin sound that is almost painful. This effect was found when listening to everything from classical to rock and speech, old and new, on CD, FM and DAB.

Others have said that the fit is critical - well maybe our ears are unusual, because we just couldn't make these phones sound good. The only way to get any bass at all was to push the phones as hard as I cound in to my ear canal - uncomfortable and, possibly, dangerous. Surely not a design feature! If fit is key, there should be some decent instructions and explanations on the packaging, but there are not.

To summarise, they didn't suit us, but they might work for you (as they seem to have done for many other people).

5 out of 5 stars Excellent quality sound and comfortable   June 5, 2008
Martha Reason (Leicester, UK)
I'm not an expert on sound-quality, but I do love listening to music and can recognise bad sound quality- these are brilliant

After getting a new ipod which didn't come with headphones, and buying some cheap ones I was getting frustrated with the poor sound. So I decided to buy these after reading the reviews and on advice from family.

I couldn't be more satisfied. As long as you have the right sized attachment, the sound is excellent, I'm hearing bits of songs I didn't even know were there. And they certainly block out noise. As I'm typing this I'm listening to them and I can't hear the tapping of the keys, even in quiet bits of the music.

I would certainly recommend them (I already have to my sister).

5 out of 5 stars Finally!   May 27, 2008
N. Arvanitis (London, England UK)
I've been looking for decent and comfortable small earphones for a while now to replace the stock Apple iPod/iPhone headphones. I even bought a pair of Superfi extra bass Shure's for well over 100 and they were absolute rubbish. They may have offered excellent sound quality for Bob Dylan, but for my type of music (pop, dance, etc) I want a lot of bass with decent mid's and high's. Well this is exactly what these CX 300's offer, and amazingly at a price for less than the cost of the stock Apple set. I tend to go through one or two pairs of Apple stock sets a year, so we'll see how these hold up. The 2 year warranty sounds nice in theory. Regardless at the price they are an absolute steal and I hope they don't catch on and double the price. The difference in sound quality and enjoy-ability to listening to music on the tube is astonishing, and they do a great job at cancelling noises, thus I hear much less background noise and I've noticed they send out less noise as well thus keeping the old people who complain about loud headphones happy. Win win situation, just be careful and check before crossing the road so you don't get knocked down since these really do muffle background noise quite well.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic headphones   April 11, 2008
K. Phillips (Bristol)
I've just bought a pair of the white CX300's and must confess that I am very, very happy with them. When I first tried them they sounded tinny and without bass. Then, I remembered a review that mentioned that they sounded good when fitted "correctly". I pushed the 'phones in a little further and hey presto, the bass comes alive with a warmth not experiented previously with my iPod.

There is a small problem with the rubberised cables as other reviewers have noted. If jogging or moving around alot, the cables do tend to become noisy. I'm sure I can work 'round this though.

I only paid 2.99 + 4.50 p&p on Amazon so am well chuffed.
