Amazon.co.uk Review Pulling few punches and garnering its fair share of headlines as a result, The Tudors is a controversial, yet compelling period piece, that dramatically tells the story of the early years of King Henry VIII. Not for nothing though has it attracted its fair share of awards attention. For The Tudors is a complex drama, and not one to simplify its storylines. The young Henry, for instance, is exploring his muddled romances and his insecurities, against the challenges his kingdom is facing. It's a plateful for him to deal with, and in the hands of a superb performance from Jonathan Rhys Meyers--a real revelation in the role--as the young Henry, it's all vividly and skillfully knitted together. But The Tudors isn't just about its central character, for there's a terrific supporting cast at work too. Sam Neill's Cardinal Wolsey, Jeremy Northam's Thomas More and Natalie Dormer's Ann Boleyn are just some who earn plaudits here. Behind the camera there's the pen of Elizabeth writer Michael Hirst at work, and he too deserves much credit, clearly getting his teeth into the fascinating subject matter. The Tudors is, undoubtedly, a graphic production, and earns its 15 certificate comfortably. It's also been knocked for the liberties it takes with its history when putting its story across, with some justification. But it's also most certainly terrific television, mixing in high production values with strong performances. In short, the ten episodes here will simply have you thirsting for the next series. Not before you've rewatched season one a few times, though... --Jon Foster

Fantastic Drama September 2, 2008 Ms. S. Smith (Soton, UK) What an awesome series; exciting and truly addictive. For those who criticise its historical accuracy, it is a FICTIONAL story, and a rather good one at that! Those who care about history will already know the truths, those that don't, does it really matter?? I loved it. My only criticism is that it ended where it did. Looking forward to series 2!!
The Tudors Series One September 1, 2008 Doreen Morley (Scotland) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I am well versed on the Tudor Lineage and know that the historical content is far from accurate. But that aside, this is sheer entertainment. The most compelling series I have ever watched! Can't wait for Series 2.
POOR RESEARCH!!! September 1, 2008 Medusa (Portugal) 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I enjoyed the series, however, it is shamefully historically incorrect... So if you are ignorante when it comes to European history (namely British, Portuguese, French and Spanish) then you will enjoy the series, but if you know what really happened then you will be disappointed, unless you obligingly try to overlook this huge taint on behalf of the producers. Also, the Portuguese are racistly depicted which I found truly distasteful. I suggest the producers pick up a couple of history books. Their lazyness to properly research what 8 year olds learn at school is beyond my comprehention...
trash and porn August 28, 2008 M. HELLEBERG (Denmark, Elsinore) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
No sorry this is pure trash. Badly researched, badly written and badly acted in a strange Irish accent. I have stopped wondering why why why they turned Henry 8. into a strapping youth and I have found the answer: somebody (I guess it is a middle aged man making these decisions) think that all tv viewers want is trash and porn. All men have perpetual erections. All women start to pant when a man touches them. Oh well, not queen Catherine who seems to have wandered in from another kind of series alltogether... This is history told for the pub-audience, for the hooligans and the braindead.
The Tudors. Series 1 August 23, 2008 Mrs. Ingrid Wilson (Spain) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you are interested in learning about the Tudor period and the court of Henry this is a series best missed. Inaccurate in historical facts and the dress of the time. Poorly portrayed, I only watched the first three episodes, but could take no more of this fantasy. Why I ask is it necessary to alter the facts when the life of Henry and his court is so well documented?
