Cheap but not exactly cheerful... July 1, 2008 J. Vaggers (London, EN) Right, first of all I totally agree with the other reviewers who say that if you want a cheap sat nav that simply gets you from A to B then get this model. However, if you want a sat nav that is extremely reliable, starts up as soon as you turn it on and doesn't randomly decide to delete all of your stored favourite address' information then I would suggest rustling up the extra money and buying a Tom Tom. I received this RAC sat nav as a christmas present as I didn't want to ask my parents to pay 100+ for a Tom Tom. It looks fine, although it has nothing against to sleekness a Tom Tom offers, the holder works fine, except I can't personally remove it from my car! so it's staying there for now, and it also manages to get from A to B. However, there are a few problems I, and from reading the other reviews other people aswell, have encountered. First of all it seems to believe that I am driving off road when i'm actually on the motorway, it randomly tells me that my memory card isn't inserted properly so I have to take it out and push it back in which delete's all of my stored address', it also takes an age to start up and it also randomly decides to take me different ways to a destination at different times of the day! I may be wrong but I don't believe that that's an added feature! If I didn't feel bad about it then I would sell it off and buy a Tom Tom. But seeing as it's a present I will hang on to it for another year or so then invest in a decent sat nav - Tom tom.
Extremely poor service from Pixmania & used goods should have been new! June 13, 2008 J. Newstead 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered the RAC Sat Nav in early December as a xmas present for my husband. He had wanted one for some time and reviews were positive. however he was very disappointed with this product and Pixmania/Amazon who supplied this product. We received a second hand product although I had purchased a new one. Scottish addresses were already programmed into the sat nav, however we were unaware until asking a friend who also received one whether these should have been there or not. They should not have been there and we came to the conclusion we were provided with one that had been returned. The reason it had been returned was that it was faulty. the signal took a very long time to triangulate and kept dropping off. It was returned early Feb. Pixmania advised that they would test it, but I asked for a refund as it was a used one as well as faulty. They said it had to be tested first then they would send me a refund, and gave me a long date in the future that they would contact me. This date came and went, no contact. On every occasion they have said they will contact me they have not. Approx 5 so far. I still have not received a refund, as they keep making excuses I think they are hoping I will forget. More than 4 months have elapsed where I have been asking for a refund and not received one. today the supervisor now advises I am not entitled to a refund, even though they have stated in a previous email that they would send me a refund!! He advises there is a 30 day warranty, however this should not apply as they sent me USED GOODS, when I purchased brand new. Still ongoing.
**ap 200 June 6, 2008 G. M. Baxter (United Kingdom) I just wanted a basic sat nav to get from A to B. This unit seemed perfect which When i first got it was for a while. The unit is well built and cradle etc but the system is very unstable with non existent battery life. The first unit froze with just the RAC logo on screen.Replaced this with a new one with amazon now the second one has done the same.
I've got sat nav and love it... April 30, 2008 Sugar (West Yorkshire) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have never had sat nav before and recently decided to treat myself, plus I plan driving my daughter and I to the airport at the end of May and felt sat nav would give me a little added confidence. I had no idea what to go for and toyed with the idea of buying a Tom Tom system but they were just so expensive. My brother recommended this RAC one, said he used it for his work which take him all over the country and said for the money it was a great piece of kit and he was right. I just love it, it was easy to programme with my work and home destination and also mega easy to programme in my fave places too. I have always been a bit nervous about jumping in the car and taking my daughter away for the day but now I feel confident to do so, the world is our oyster now and I'm already planning great days out for when the weather picks up... YEY to RAC :-)

WHEN I RECIEVED RAC 200 IT LOOKED IMPRESSIVE AND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE JUST WANT I WAS LOOKING FOR, BUT AFTER USING IT A COUPLE OF TIMES I DISCOVERED THAT THE BATTERY INDICATOR WAS NOT WORKING AS IT SHOULD SHOWING A FULL BATTERY AND NO INDICATION THAT THE BATTERY WAS IN NEED OF RECHARGING. THE UNIT JUST FADED AND SWITCH OUT, LEAVING ME LOST!! WHY SHOULD YOU NEED TO HAVE THIS UNIT ON CONSTANT CHARGE 24/7 TO BE ABLE TO USE IT? AS FOR THE FREE DOWNLOADS UNABLE TO FIND OUT WHERE AND HOW TO GET THEM???????????
