Good in short bursts! January 15, 2008 Robbie Swale (York) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
Scattergories is a really good game. Basically, you roll a dice which gives you a letter from the alphabet. Each player then individually works through a category card which gives them a list of categories, and they have to think of something for each category which begins with the letter. This is then repeated with a different letter but the same categories. Then, in round 3, there is an open ended category, and each player has to write down as many things beginning with the rolled letter as they can think of. In each round, you only score points if no other players have got the answer. There are a few little rules which say some things you can and can't write down, but the other key part of the game is that if there is a dispute - over, for instance, whether an obscure Third Division Footballer counts as a celebrity - the players vote as to whether they think it should be allowed. This can bit can become a little bit heated, so play when you're all in a good mood! One of the best things about this game is that you can choose how many rounds you play. A single one only takes about ten minutes, so it can be anything from that up to hours if you wanted! I would say that we normally found that after a couple of rounds, it tends to wear a bit thin - but that may just be because we are too competitive and people start voting down perfectly good answers!
Simple yet effective June 30, 2007 C. Blackburn (England, UK.) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Scattergories is really easy to pick up and anyone can play it. It's a lot more fun than other word games like Scrabble or Boggle, which personally I find terribly boring. Also, if you took the parts out of the box it would be easy to transport around, for instance on holiday or on a train journey. Playing it only takes about fifteen minutes so if you have a lot to do in the day, it won't take up much time. For instance, when I was revising for my exams I sometimes played it with friends for a brief break. It is initially really addictive, although it's a shame that there aren't more category lists, because I'm starting to get bored with using the same ones again and again.
Christmas fun! January 15, 2007 C. Homewood (UK) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first suggested playing Scattergories, my boyfriend wrinkled his nose up and muttered 'not another word game'. Ahhhhh but this is Scattergories, probably one of the most simple but addictive word games ever invented. My entire family is now hooked on it. It appeals to all age ranges and the young can easily compete against their elders on equal terms. If you need a game to keep the entire family entertained, then this is one to try!
Terrific family game January 7, 2006 roy fairhurst (United Kingdom) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
We played this game over the Christmas period and had such a good time the television set had feelings of rejection. For young and old this game is tops.

This is a great game, very easy to play. You're off and running within 5 mins. There's a great feeling of satisfaction when you come up with an answer no-one else has thought of.What I also like about this is you don't have to sit around the table, you can play it anywhere. I guess it could get a bit repetative after a while, as there are limited categories. That said, there are 144 of them, and 20 letters, so there's only a 1 in 2880 chance of a repeat. You could even make up your own I guess! For the price, it's definitely worth it.
