THIS REALLY WORKS July 5, 2008 Brendan O. Clarke (Edinburgh) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Having just purchased McKenna's Change Your life in 10 Days, i gave this book a whirl. Would you like to eat whatever you want and still lose weight? Not possible (sorry). Would you like to feel happy with your body? Its possible. Are you unable to lose those last 2 stone? Its possible. Do you get disheartened about your eating habits? Well then, read this bookreview and save your cash. Stop eating unhealthy foods; eat fruit and vegetables. Quit the booze. Cycle to work everyday; go for a walk after dinner every evening instead of watching BB or Eastenders. Do not go to the Gym. Going to the Gym is a waste of time; jog to the Supermarket instead and carry your shopping home. You'd be amazed how much exercise you can do if you avoid using your car or public transport. There you go. I have just given you the template for losing weight. Its easy but extremly boring, but its worth it. I have now re-patterned your thoughts, attitudes and beliefs about yourself and your exercise. There you go my fatlittle friends, it's not much fun, is it? Selah, DR. Bee Clarke.
Excellent July 3, 2008 Azune (Bedfordshire United Kingdom) I have also believed in Paul Mckenna and it was him that inspired me to change jobs and do many of the things that I always wanted to do. I knew that I was losing the battle of the bulge and had been for several years, in truth I didn't really know what to do. However one day about a month ago I got up and decided I would buy this book and and I believed it would work, I have read it and only listened to the CD a couple of times (you shouldn't listen to the CD during the day if you want the full benefits, you want trance not sleep!) because I work full time. However that is irrelevant, the mechanism that he uses to demystify the eating process and his golden rules are an incredibly clever way of doing things and more importantly you can follow them and they work. Take is from me I was famous as being the fastest eater in the west ;) And I was known to have an insatiable appetite now I can't even finish half or a quarter of what I had and I feel great, the feeling of free and the rush of knowing you CAN have that chocolate or that mcdonalds if you really want to is amazing and thats why this works. Well done Paul...again!
Not as good as Marisa Peer May 23, 2008 Loop L (UK) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I did this in Jan but it didnt stick at all, some things worked, I was leaving food and stopped weighing myself everyday, but I just felt that it didnt give me enough to change my diet. The book and CD says you can eat what you want when you are hungry, I suppose I was never a massive snacker and thought I was a fairly healthy eater at main meals with pasta and rice dishes. I didnt lose any weight and I got tired of listening to the CD, so gave up. A few weeks ago a friend suggest a different Hypnosis book/CD by Marisa Peer, now this one has changed my life ! She has changed the way I eat so far, I began the new eating plan on Monday and its only Friday and Ive lost 3lbs. Ive not scrimped on my portions just made sure Im not eating the wrong things like Pasta and Rice !! I think if you eat a balanced diet then Paul might be good for you, but if you have cravings for sweet things and carbohydrates Marisa is probably the better way.
Think yourself thin! May 13, 2008 Mrs. W. Harrison (England) I'm a great fan of Paul Mckenna and find his hypnosis techniques really do work. I believe that most people are overweight because they've forgotten how to eat - i.e. eat when you're hungry and stop eating when you're full. Many people overeat for emotional reasons, or as a result of strict dieting - which doesn't really encourage you to listen to what your body wants. This book helps you to re-learn those skills and lose weight, without dieting. However, I think the title of the book should be 'Think Yourself Thin' - as you still have to be committed to listening to the CD and following the principles - Paul can't do that for you! I would recommend this book to anyone who's had enough of dieting and simply wants to re-learn how to eat in response to hunger. Can reading this book make you thin? April 21, 2008 Elizabeth Taylor (France) 4 out of 6 found this review helpful
This book claims that it will change your relationship with food and that will ultimately make you thin but of course we all know is that eating less and excercising more will make you thin not reading a book so whats this guys silver bullet. The point is I think that part of loosing weight is about determing the reasons why you are doing it and making sure that you can sustain that weight loss. My doctor told me that less than 10% of people who loose weight keep it off so its true that the long term solution is as important as the hunger pangs and gym time. The two main aspects of the plan are firstly only eat when you are hungry and secondly positive thinking and reinforcement of positive messages - which I found the most interesting as it encourages you to turn any negative idea or thought into something positive so mental as well as physical gymnastics. The book itself contains 90 pages and on the left hand side there is a daily idea from our mentor, for example, taking the time to think positively about some part of yourself. On the right hand side is a daily checklist and space to put in some comments to two questions a) One positive thing I noticed today and b) What I'm looking forward to tomorrow. The checklist asks if you have if you have moved your body, drank lots of water, eaten only when you are hungry, looked in the mirror and thought about how great you. The second key to this plan or idea is only eat what you want and only eat when you are hungry. The idea being not to enter into a negative cycle of deprevation but embracing what you like eating but only eat when you need to and as much as you need. All these ideas are great and important to long term success. I also find that writing in a journal and having checkpoints is a good way to keep on track. But whether any diet works is up to you not the author, so the book is a tool to help you as an overweight individual feel more positive about yourself, more committed to a diet and build a long term sustainable relationship with food. So did it work for me? well it helped me think about why I was dieting and the postiive thinking was a very good excercise which I much appreciated and I honestly did change some things in my relationship with food such as only eating at the table - not in front of the TV and to think about the enjoyment of food rather than using it as a comfort blanket and I started doing more sport - I do however admit that although I kept on the diet I gave up with the journal after around 1.5 months as the daily questions are the same but ever so often I go back and have a peek.
