Best cookbook I've ever bought! October 6, 2008 Nichola Stelter (Dublin, Ireland) First saw this cookbook in my sister's house and asked her to photocopy me a few recipes so I could try them...by the end of the week I'd cooked them all so decided to buy it for myself! We both cooked a three-course meal from this book for our other halves and it was empty plates all round - a good sign that this is tasty food that just happens to be healthy!I've made about 20 things so far and they've all been gorgeous. None of it is rocket science, just simple substitutions and hints for food you would make every day. Carbonara is one of my husband's favourite dinners and now he prefers this version. Examples of recipes are: Boursin, pancetta and chive omelette Sundried tomato and black olive dip Chicken Caesar salad with Melba toast (dressing tastes exactly like real Caesar but so much healthier!) Pepperoni and parmesan pitta pizzas Tomato chilli and basil soup Hot and spicy chicken soup (amazing!) Thai green prawn curry with fragrant rice Healthy roast dinner Chicken tikka masala Ho fan beef noodles (another favourite!) Lasagne Maple glazed pork with garlic and olive oil mash Potato skins with guacamole and salsa Lemon meringue mess Orange and chocolate tiramisu Banoffee pie pots Passion fruit Margaritas Mandarin Bellinis I can honestly say I use this book most nights of the week and have cooked for many people using these recipes - no complaints yet! Looking forward to the new book coming out! Although for people who are buying it in the hopes of shedding pounds I can't say I've lost any weight, but I'm not really trying to. On the plus side, I can still make new dishes every day (including deserts) and not put on any weight, which can be a problem with some other cookbooks that use loads of butter and full-fat ingredients. This book is so simple to use and the ingredients are all mainstream things that are easy to find in any supermarket. A must for any kitchen!!
Great recipes - but time consuming September 30, 2008 Andrea Smith (London, UK) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
If I were to commit the cardinal sin of judging the book by its cover I would say it's a funky book that promises a great deal. Sadly, despite the fact that the few recipes I did make from here were delicious the majority of the recipes are too time-consuming for me and the indredients list on most of them are enough to put me off. For weekend cooking it's an inspiration, but it is not practical to aspire to pick a recipe from this book on weeknights when you work full time, therefore in my opinion the book cannot really be used to help you lose weight. Unless of course you diet only on weekends... now there's a thought!
First Cookery Book Purchase August 14, 2008 Kim (London) I've recently got back into the kitchen and decided to purchase this book after reading the good reviews and i'm happy that i did. Before the recipes, the girls guide us through the "big offenders" in food and introduce us to calorie counting. I'm now much more aware of looking at food packaging before buying them to see their calorie contents and i'm keeping an eye on what i eat now, which i feel healthier and better for. The recipes are easy to follow and simple to do and it just shows that you don't have to eat carrot sticks and discard desserts altogether - if you follow their advice, you can drop a dress side in a delicious way!
I bought this book very nievely, looked at it once the ingredients are to flouncy! July 18, 2008 G. Yates (UK) 2 out of 9 found this review helpful
The ingredience for the recipies are things that you wouldnt normally find in your cupboard so its too much hassle than its worth.
Beats any other diet recipe book hands down! June 22, 2008 J. Crick 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I got this book for Christmas last year and am now going to purchase a copy for my Mum who I hope will enjoy it as much as I have. My boyfriend is in the kitchen cooking the fish pie as I type, he is adding a couple of boiled eggs and capers to the dish. We have nearly cooked our way through the entire book. I had a chocolate craving earlier this afternoon and made the delicious spiced hot chocolate. I don't think of it as a diet book, just a fantastic cook book which has simple and tasty recipes which don't take very long to prepare and cook.
