Product Description Optimised for use with the WPN311 RangeMax? Wireless Router, which dramatically boosts signal and eliminates dead spots, to provide superior wireless coverage and speed to your desktop via the PCI slot. 1000% more coverage than 802.11g: As a 21st-century consumer, your desktop computer is an integral part of your life. But does your home computing environment work for you? Even if you already have a wireless network, you've probably found "dead spots" in your home where your Internet connection fades in and out, or drops off completely. Now, say good-bye to those dead spots ? and say hello to the freedom to work (and play) absolutely anywhere in your home! With the RangeMax Wireless Router and PCI Adapter, your whole house becomes a "hot spot." NETGEAR's exclusive RangeMax technology gives you the longest range of any wireless network on the market today - up to 10 times the wireless coverage of 802.11g. So you'll have a sizzling-fast, consistent connection in every room of your house. Range Matters: Put the NETGEAR RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapter to work for you, and that's all you need - leave those range extenders, repeaters, and external antennas at the store. The RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapter is optimized for use with the RangeMax Wireless Router which adjusts to the interference and physical barriers in your home, and delivers up to 500,000 square feet of coverage - 1000% more than 802.11g. And the RangeMax Wireless PCI Adapter is 100% compatible with your existing 802.11b/g products. Power Under the Hood: RangeMax is an advanced Smart MIMO (Multi-In, Multi-Out) technology that uses seven internal antennas in the wireless router. The RangeMax Wireless Router constantly surveys your home environment for barriers and interference and adjusts the signal to compensate for these performance inhibitors. For example, if you want to place your desktop in a different location, the RangeMax Wireless Router automatically senses the change and selects fr

Great Hardware - but don't use the software & driver August 27, 2008 Mr. J. Trotter (Newbury, United Kingdom) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I feel compelled to write a review (there is a first time for everything). I bought the WPN311 because I have a Netgear DG834PN RangeMax wireless router which has been very good - I wanted to add wireless functionality to my rather old Dell desktop and thought I might have compatibility issues if I went with another wireless PCI provider. I read the reviews for the WPN311 (noting the varied comments about the accompanying software - not all favourable). It arrived. I installed it and during the process I flipped a coin and opted to use the accompanying Netgear software (driver and management programme). Bad move - it worked fine for a few weeks and then for no reason refused to connect to the router, the software crashed continuously and then finally I ended up experiencing the Blue Screen of Death at which point I deinstalled everything, got on my work laptop determined to find a solution. I will get straight to the point - this is a great wireless adaptor but be warned - stay clear of the software - it will give you sleepless nights and grey hair. Also, if you value your sanity avoid the Netgear customer support. It may as well not even exist. There is however some very good news...IMHO... To really take advantage of this super hardware (especially if you have a Netgear wifi router) download the driver and accompanying management software from http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=602974. It is an executable file called Atheros-3-3-0-170.exe. Before you double click the file to install the utility fit the WPN311 to your machine. Once you have installed the card, start your machine. Ignore the found new hardware messages - just cancel them. Now double click the Atheros.exe file and follow the instructions. It will find the WPN311 card itself. I installed both the management software (called Ekahau Wireless Utility) and (of course) the driver. You may need to power cycle your modem and wifi router to allow the card / software to pick up the signal but at that point you will be up and running (if you need to do that at all). Now everything works brilliantly. By the way, this file is for WinXP and Win2003 operating systems only. I can't comment on Vista, but you should also be able to find this on the same website. Hope this helps.
Simple install & then it just works. August 9, 2008 M. Vermeersch I have installed this under Vista SP1 following the instructions supplied within the box. Reboot, configure using the wizard and that's it. Works. Only snag is that the product has performance limitations (runs the normal speed instead of benefitting from the speedboost this brand is supposed to give) running under Vista. While this is described, they could have made it more visible.
Blue screen misery - IT roulette time December 3, 2007 jonny catarrh watson (Sheffield UK) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Bought two of these cards with the router and a PCMIA card for a laptop. Installation straight forward enough but both desktops crash on a regular basis - two or three times an evening - blue screen warns of a 'physical memory dump' and cites the network card as the cause. Downloaded new drivers - made no difference. Netgear support made no attempt to rectify - just advised me to get my money back... They work well for some people - perhaps you'll be lucky - on the other hand, perhaps you wont!
Superb replacement! November 30, 2007 D. Gibbard (Essex, UK) The last internal wireless card i had was by a company called Kcorp, which lasted me a good four years or so- that card died eventually around feb '07 and was replaced with a belkin usb wireless adapter of which im on my third; and also ive had a d-link usb adapter and a netgear WG111T G=MIMO USB adapter which was the most recent. All of the USB models were of poor qulaity one way or another; be it reliability, poor software, poor drivers, or a combination of any of the above. Until i dropped them all for this internal card- its been fantastically reliable, maintaining speeds at a maximum as well as signal strength- and the installation allows you to chose between using Netgear's or Window's wireless utilities; either of which are fine. No drop-outs, no bugs (that ive seen yet) and max speed through-out (paired with a G+MIMO series router of course). All in all, after alot of skeptical wireless adapter/card use, i was reluctant to purchase another- but now, am extremely glad i did! (PS I did download and use Netgear's latest drivers rather than the disk contained ones.)
Simple to install, great performance September 21, 2007 Richard Feltbower 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this to install in a PC following transfer over to Sky Broadband. Since Sky provide a free Netgear router, a Netgear wireless adapter was recommended to minimise compatibility problems. Installation was a piece of cake, although make sure you download the latest Windows XP drivers from the netgear website rather than using the CD enclosed, following previously reported problems (see comments below). The PC immediately picked up the router and signal quality and reliability have both been very good. Highly recommended!
