Does all I expected and more July 25, 2008 Simon Bull (Wiltshire, UK) I bought these as I was unhappy about wireless, both for privacy and (potential) health reasons. Out of the box they worked perfectly first time. Brilliant. A couple of months later I was doing some work in the summer house which is about 30 feet from the house, and realised that I needed to access the web. As I already had trailed an extension cable from the house so I could use my laptop for more than 30 minutes - the time it takes the battery to go flat, I decided to try my luck and plug in the adapter into the extension cable as well. I didn't hold out much hope, as it says on the box it doesn't work on extension cables - but it did! The Powerpacket utility reports a high quality signal, and a speed of 77.35Mbs. I'd like to pont out that it was only a bog-standard extension cable - I use it for the lanmower too (although not at the same time!) and it was plugged into a different "ring" to that of the other adapter. Perhaps I've just been lucky?
Work perfectly out of the box June 20, 2008 B. T. Steer (Salisbury, England) Sick and tired of dodgy wireless connection between computers from one end of the (long, narrow) house to the other i decided to buy these. This seems to be one of the best prices i could find given that i don't need the 200Mb transfer rates which pretty much doubles the price. Anyway, i've just received them, plugged one into the wall by my Nintendo Wii (with the usb/ethernet adapter i also bought on amazon) and one into the wall by my netgear adsl router. Worked perfectly first time - wii internet connection vastly improved. I'll be purchasing more to expand the network in future.
Fed up with wireless? Try this June 7, 2008 S Robbe (London) I have had two of these for a year now and just ordered two more. Like so many I tried wireless first. That worked though the speed was well below that advertised. More worryingly, I had someone trying to hack into my computer from elsewhere in the neighbourhood. No such worries with Homeplug. Secuity is excellent without having to go into settings because it is based on the ring main in the house. For those very worried about security, a very secure protection is much easier to set up than WEP/WAP etc. Set up was easy. It works even without installing the software but if you want to change the setting (particularly to set up the password protection), the software is easy to use and only takes up 1.61MB on the hard disk. In my home which is a combination of 1970s wiring and 2005 wiring connected to a RCB protected circuit board, connection speed is about 73Mbps for those plugged straight into sockets. Extension leads and particularly surge protected sockets slow down the connection though I have not experienced significant issues with the two surge protected sockets (from different brands) which I use. The speeds delivered for these are around 40Mbps, still very respectable and more than satisfactory for Internet usage and home network use. I am very satisfied with these Homeplugs and do not understand why anyone would want slower and less secure wireless.
PLUG AND PLAY !! May 30, 2008 adam12578 Like others I bought these to mainly use with the 360. Hooked up one unit to the Netgear Router and plugged into the mains. The other to the 360 and into the mains. Within minutes I was connected and live. No need for wireless, and can you can use anywhere in the house where the is a power socket. Easy as that!
Xbox 360 must have!! April 16, 2008 Stephen Emmett 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought a wireless adaptor for my xbox 360 as it is near enough impossible to run a cable up stairs and to the opposite corner of the house. After a while of using the wireless adaptor the internet connection would cut out and take ages to reconnect. This alternative is cheaper and it works better. It is also easier to set up as you dont have to change any settings. With the 360 wireless bridge i had to run various connection test n tweak the settings untill it worked. This is just like having a wired connection it runs faster it is more reliable and it is an excelent product. I just hope it doesnt break as i have heard the customer service is not great. P.S i have sent my 360 wireless bridge back as it stopped working completely. I tested my friends wireless on my xbox and it worked (still with very weak signal). I am hopeing amazon will give me a refund for the adaptor.
