Great functions, let down by awful ink management. May 4, 2008 D. Laverick (Northallerton, UK) 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
I bought one for work use and was astounded at all the features available for the price of the unit, it really is 'all in one' and the LCD is adequate for PC free photo printing. The only floor is the horrendous ink management. Being that this is a printer, it's a fatal floor. This thing drinks ink - it will nag that a new cartridge is low after only about 20 pages, and has no quarms about freezing up mid-print because it wants more ink. Completely randomly it 'can't recognise ink cartridge' - you know it's being awkward as simply turning off & on again solves the problem. If you are tricked into removing & re-seating the cartridge, the printer will then spend the next five minutes flushing 1/4 of each colour onto the waste pad to clean the heads for you. I'm going to try and save it by instaling a CISS, as I don't care about breaking it now - if that doesn't work, it's going in the bin! P.S. Another floor for office use is the function the CX6400 had that let you scan to a PDF without using the PC to run the software, Epson seem to be removing functionality as model numbers increase!
Dreadful January 3, 2008 CHunt (London, UK) 28 out of 33 found this review helpful
I am soooooooooo sorry that I bought this printer. The duplex printing is manual - you have to take the paper out and turn it around yourself, so you can't leave the work to print by itself - you have to supervise the printer. The instructions are incorrect. If you adhere to the Epson instructions on how to place the paper in the printer and how to insert the paper for duplex printing it is totally incorrect. I spent ages experimenting and recording my own notes. This is important for me as I do a lot of 2 and 4 pages on a sheet. The method for getting duplex printing on each is different, but the printer gives the wrong instructions for all. I had a Canon before and it was like magic, until I needed an additional printer and Epson was suggested. Every printer I have had has just done as it's been told. The software is unattractive and looks like the old 3'5 MS-DOS format type of software - clunky and incorrect. The ink runs out in no time at all. A warning stating that you must but more ink, and it must be Epson ink, prevents you from printing. I haven't discovered how to bypass this yet. Apparently you can't. Hence, Epson decides when I buy ink, how much I use, and the quality of print that I want. I can never get through a decent document without the printer coming to a total halt and telling me to buy more Epson ink. It's terrible. I will NEVER buy an Epson again. It claims to do things that it cannot. A big con! I am very very disappointed. I will need to buy another printer as the ink purchases are simply to frequent and expensive. An absolutely awful and deeply regrettable buy. They must have rushed to get this out before Xmas. I have never had such problems before. I will go back to Canon for sure. the one star if for it physical small neat (deceiving) appearance.
the best All In one Printer ,you can buy. December 8, 2007 Velis the Priest (Athens,Greece) 7 out of 15 found this review helpful
SEIKO-Epson made the best color LCD screen, to this multi-machines category,Sleek and modern, with great features. Fax,copy, scaning, printing everything working perfect, with very easy & usefull control panel. I use it,in my accounting office, in Athens. I buy it 3 days before only 170Euro.+1 Euro for the USB cable, to connect to my laptop... In the same category with double cost the Hp machines, has a bad,old technology screen, with a 3 colour ink....when finish one color , you must replace all the expensive cartridge. I have n`t an opinion about canon printers.I never used them. It`s not very fast when you print color pages, but I don`t care about this point in my every day use. There is a new model EPSON STYLUS DX9400F , WI-FI EDITION to connect it everywhere. You will love it...!!!!!!!!!!!!
