1 out of 5 stars X-Box Rip-off   April 22, 2008

I had the misfortune to buy an X-Box a year ago for my sons. It has been in for repare twice during this time and has just failed again. On one occasion the whole thing was replaced, only to fail again in a month.

What my lads now have is a pile of games, (some scratched by the machine) and a broken X-box.

If you are thinking of buying one. Be warned. When you send it back for repair, the courier company just laugh. At least someones happy with this shambles!!

This console is brilliant, i've had it sice mid 2006 and i couldn't be happier with it. It's still in fantastic working condition and the amount of games that are constantly being released is a plus! In the battle of the consoles (having tried them all) i do reccommend the xbox 360 as it is without a doubt the most succesful console there is. Bring on GTA IV!

Well for many things with the console really, but mainly the sheer unreliability of the thing. The majority of 360 consoles have broken at somepoint from their apparently terrible build quality but there you go. I think every one of them now comes with a 3 year warranty now though so you should be fine if you do buy one.

Apart from that issue however, it is an amazing console. The graphics are incredible on my 4 year old 15inch LCD monitor and I imagine to them to be much better on any other HD televisions. The Xbox live service is truly fantastic, very reliable, quick and easy IMO. The games are more a matter of opinion, if you don't like shooters then you might do best to avoid this console. However if you do it is THE console to get. You can also download some very cool arcade games and also HD movies (though it must be said, choice is limited here). You do need a rather expensive ad on for wireless, but apart from that it is hard to find fault with the console. If you are thinking about getting one, go for it. You won't regret it.

2 out of 5 stars Too unreliable for us!   April 13, 2008

I find the review feature on Amazon useful, but have noticed a lot of people review a product after having just bought it. That's OK but sometimes it helps to have some more info based on long term ownership - hence this review.

We've had our XBOX360 since the beginning of 2007 - so with well over a year of experience this is our experience:

Our XBOX360 is used with a Panasonic HD 42" Plasma - the output looks excellent, and it sits on an open glass stand with nothing else around it - so no heat build-up issues should occur. Our family use the 360 occasionally for games and rarely for DVDs - it is too noisy IMO to watch films on.

Our main problem with the system is random lockups, which affect games and the dashboard itself. I've never seen an error message, but games such as Forza 2 lock up randomly on such a frequent basis the game has been rendered unplayable. PGR3 (which came with the console) locks up on a more infrequent basis, (although always on one of the early Las Vegas driving challenges). It's sad to reflect that you are always driving in a PGR3 race wondering if the screen will freeze. I've searched online and tried all the fixes suggested by MS, but nothing works.

As a games console the XBOX 360 cannot be relied up. Despite having bought quite few games (and accessories) practicality means we will look to get a Playstation 3 some time this year. I'd sell the 360 but am not sure I want the aggravation of having the new owner complaining about its shortcomings and inability to play certain top games.

I don't doubt that some owners have had no problems (I've played Saints Row for hours on end with no problems), but for us driving games seem to be a weak point in the 360, and having games stop without warning is not a "feature" I look for in a console. Which is a pity as I think Microsoft get a rougher ride than they deserve, and Sony have been highly anti-European in their PS3 strategy (late region delivery, higher prices, stripped out features), but in this instance the XBOX360 is not a product I could recommend to anyone.

4 out of 5 stars Good but, think of the games   April 12, 2008

I thought it was a bit one-sided all these reviews about the console itself, but not enough about the games.
There is one issue about the games for the xbox 360 ever since i had it (14 months)that bug me, multiplayer great, Graphics and gameplay are great, but has anyone realised that the games being made are so short, and they get boring very quickly (in some cases multiplayer), whatever happened to a game that you can spend hourse of fun on. Look at GRAW2, Gears of war, Rainbow 6 vegas 2 and the pathetic(i'm being kind here) lenght of Halo3 which the campaign can take 2 days(you'd expect more to be done in 3 yearts of developement.
