5 out of 5 stars Expensive but good   June 7, 2008

Prior to purchasing this mower I was undecided between this and the larger Rotak 43. My existing mower is a 40 cut. My rear lawn is approximately 10 x 10 and my front 10 x 5 metres. That is a total of 150m2 and the mower is good for 300 according to Bosch. That is short grass in dry conditions with the cut set to medium. Additional batteries are available but they cost around 90.00.

The battery took 30 minutes to be fully charged whilst I assembled the mower. Assembly of the mower was quite easy to do. Most difficult part was tightening the two screws that secured the handle into the mower. No problems with the grass box. Instructions were quite small to read though.

I found the default grass height setting of 3 hopeless and had to set the mower to 1. A plastic insert requires removal for you to achieve this. Possibly you are discouraged from using the lower cut to save battery power. In use I found the mower very easy to manoeuvre and obviously so much easier without a cord. The lawn looked very good after cutting.

The battery had faired well and the indicator showed two green LEDs lit indicating a 1/3 of the power remaining. The grass was dry and about 25mm in height. It seem like there should be sufficient spare battery capacity to deal with longer or wetter grass. The grass box was emptied three times. With it being the smaller of the two mowers there was no problem in emptying the grass into the green waste bags.

In summary for my garden size the Bosch Rotak 37 has been a good choice. It's light and easy to manoeuvre and store. Cutting the lawn was almost a pleasure.

5 out of 5 stars The best a (smallish) lawn can get?   May 20, 2008

Our rough and ready lawn has never looked better since the cordless Rotak took over cutting duties from the Hopeless Hover.

As with other reviewers, I wanted to get away from the fuss and bother of petrol and cable, and have found this machine perfect for our smallish front and back lawns. Very easy to use and manoeuvre, it's almost done away with the need for a separate strimmer for round the edges and trees, and produces passable stripes which make it look as though I'm a keener gardener than I am.

All in all, thoroughly recommended - the best mower I've ever had, and I've had a few.

3 out of 5 stars Bosch Rotak 37 Li - ingenious use of rechargeable battery   May 9, 2008

This is a good rotary mower but to achieve the battery life in the advertisements you need to push the mower at a fair walking pace with the blades set to a height of 3 out of 7 settings on fairly short, reasonably dry, grass. To encourage you Bosch have fitted a block (which can be easily removed) preventing you from trying a low cut.
I should perhaps have bought the next size up with two batteries but my lawn did satisfy the requirements in the advert.

I purchased this after reading a favourable review in Which Magazine. It was to replace a Bosch Rotak 40 to save the bother of unwinding and winding the extension cable and making sure it is not in the way during mowing.

The cut is good, it is easy to manoevre and it does make light work of mowing the lawn. The battery seems to be adequate for my lawn despite its smallish size and the only drawback seems to be that the battery can't be stored below 0 degrees C.

5 out of 5 stars Great! At last a cordless mower worth buying,   May 1, 2008

Thank you Bosch..

We all hate mowing the lawn and not wanting a petrol mower the only alternative is electric with the hassle of cables and worrying about cutting the lawn when it's damp - which lets face it happens most of the time in a UK summer.

I've been keeping an eye on cordless mowers over the past few years and up until now they've always seemed to be a bit of a gimmick that take heavy, car-battery sized batteries that don't last all that long. Now with Li-Ion battery technology all that has changed. Thankfully.

My lawn is rough! A mixture of grass and is far from level. Having now used this mower for a couple of cuts - both with medium to long grass I can say it is a absolute joy to use. It's light, easy to handle and powerful enough to get through longish damp grass, and no cables!!! It cuts better than my previous 2 Flymo electric mowers and is quicker to use as it's so light.

My only ctricism is that it's difficult to tell how full the grass box is, and grass tends to go everywhere if you are emptying it when too full. But it's really a minor thing as it's no hassle to just empty it more often.

Some reviews I have read of the 43cm model criticise the grass box that is flimsy as it comes in 3 parts. This model has a grass box that comes in 2 parts - the box itself and a lid - which is much better and I had no problems assembling it and it doesn't feel too flimsy to me.

I agree that some parts do feel a little bit flimsy although this is the same with almost any product you buy these days. However overall it is of typical Bosch construction and feels like it is built to last reasonably well.

The battery does everything it says it does and so far I can only describe it as superb! Take Bosch's advice though - and consider the model you need for the size of lawn(s) you need to cut.

Sure, it's expensive. However, having bought 2 cheaper electic mowers in the past 4 years, one of which broke down after 18 months and both of which I found a pain to use I think the extra expense is worth it to make mowing my lawn less of a chore.
